Audi TT coupe (model code 8N) was released in September 1998. The name TT was borrowed from the name of the annual motorcycle race "Tourist Trophy" to emphasize the sporty character of the car. The TT is built on a platform shared with the Volkswagen Golf 4 and the Skoda Octavia 1. The power unit at first was only one - a 20-valve 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. In 1999, a version of the roadster came to the market. At the turn of 1999/2000, the handling of the car was improved, the rear spoiler increased, the ESP stabilization system was included in the list of standard equipment, and the suspension was changed. In 2003, the line of engines was replenished with a new VR6 gasoline engine with a working volume of 3.2 liters and a capacity of 250 hp. A year later, a new DSG box was introduced.
2What buyers check
Interior
The high-quality materials used for interior decoration look flawless even after many years. All interior details are adjusted with extreme accuracy. The first noticeable signs of wear appear on the leather braid of the steering wheel. A comfortable position behind the wheel is easy to pick up, thanks to the huge range of seat adjustments and steering wheel. The front passenger will also not have to complain about the lack of comfort. Only children can be seated in the back seats.
The trunk due to the strongly sloping body line is very small - only 270 liters. If you throw back the rear seats forward, the luggage compartment will increase to 540 liters.
The list of standard equipment Audi TT included electric windows, climate control and two airbags. The vast majority of the copies on the secondary market are additionally equipped with a high-quality audio system, an on-board computer and side airbags.
Engines
Most of the cars are equipped with a well-known and well-respected 1.8 T petrol engine in various power options. The 1.8 T engine is undeniably a success. Even with large runs, malfunctions are rare. However, there have been repeated cases of a significant increase in motor oil consumption. A common problem is cracking of the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger. Unpleasant twitching of the speed is often a consequence of pollution of the flowmeter. The problems with the gas distribution system will be much more expensive. The knock that appears may mean the need to replace the tensioner of the small chain of the timing system connecting the camshafts, or hydraulic compensators. The cost of such repairs is estimated at 15-30 thousand rubles. All these problems are deprived of the second engine VR6 3. 2 250 hp, offered since 2003. It is a very technological, but at the same time reliable engine, developing fantastic power and having excellent sound. Its only drawback is a relatively high fuel consumption, sometimes exceeding 12 l / 100 km. The most rational choice is 1.8 T with a capacity of 180 hp. It provides the perfect trade-off between operating costs and driving pleasure. This unit is characterized by a moderate fuel appetite - an average of 8.1 l / 100 km (for the front-wheel drive version). However, sports seats, tight suspension and strong engines provoke dynamic driving, which leads to a slight increase in fuel consumption. The 1.8 T engine is very vulnerable to any kind of alterations that increase power.
Suspension
Quite rigid suspension combined with very accurate steering encourages dynamic movement. Meanwhile, while driving at excessively high speeds, you need to be alert. The car in the version with front axle drive tends to understeer when abruptly entering a corner. The energetic change in thrust caused by the gas discharge can cause slight oversteering. This leads to a strong skid of the rear axle and even a 180-degree reversal. On the track, this behavior is a unique pleasure, but on public roads, the Audi TT becomes a source of serious danger. Moreover, this effect is greatly enhanced at high speeds. The risk was so great that in a fairly short period of time, many tragic events occurred due to a specific feature. The manufacturer responded to this with the modification of the car and service promotions. In 2000, the Audi TT received a small spoiler on the trunk lid, a modified suspension and a mandatory ESP stabilization system.
Typical malfunctions
All the strange sounds that appear during the sudden release of the clutch pedal, indicate wear of the cushions of the gearbox. Often, the first years of production suffer from problems with electricity. Fail sensors ABS, ESP, crankshaft position and xenon light level corrector. Sometimes the voltage regulator is uncomfortable. Fortunately, it will need no more than 2000 rubles to replace it. Often owners of Audi TT complain of burnout of pixels of the display of the onboard computer.
In instances with very large mileages, it is quite possible that lambda probes will have to be replaced. Over time, the ignition coils also fail. In intensively operated Audi TT often refuses the turbocharger.
If the car has been moving for a long time with large 18-inch wheels, then you need to be ready to replace the bushings and ball suspension levers. A natural consequence of the quality of Russian roads will be quickly worn-out hub bearings and shock absorbers.

4Challenges of selling privately
Audi TT is a graceful and fast car. Given its high reliability and good availability of spare parts, it is less expensive to operate than Japanese and Italian competitors. However, TT has its weaknesses. It offers only two full-fledged seats, and view is severely limited due to narrow glass, massive racks and small mirrors. When choosing a car, it is recommended to consider only models with an ESP stability system. This will be useful, especially if you intend to use the sports abilities of the car.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
