Why buyers choose this model

The BMW 6 is fascinating. Flat hood, elongated silhouette, wide stern with two-stream exhaust pipes, which are inherent only in top BMW models. The impression greatly enhances the sound of the BMW 650i petrol V8. But it wasn't always that way. After his debut in 2003, chief designer Chris Bangle received a lot of harsh criticism. He was rebuked for "bags under his eyes" at the front and a "clumsy top-on" trunk lid. The critics fell silent today. The classical forms we used to have seemed too radical at the time. The interior fully corresponds to the status of a luxury coupe. The revolutionary 2003 iDrive control system and its likeness can be found in many cars. Despite the BMW 6’s decent age, the add-ons included adaptive headlights, a head-up projection and Keyless Go’s keyless access system. BMW 6 Series E63 (E64 convertible) is built on the basis of BMW 5 E60. The Bavarian coupe received a rather modest line of power units. The most powerful among them is the 4.8-liter petrol atmospheric V8. The engine is able to demonstrate the potential of all its 367 hp in any situation. It is enough to accelerate to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds and accelerate to 250 km / h (naturally limited by electronics). However, those who like to grab on sharp turns do not understand the BMW 6. It is too bulky – 1.8 tons in empty condition. The German coupe embodies the pure teachings of the classic GT – a fast and comfortable trunk car. BMW 6 first years of production today can be purchased for 500 000 rubles, and the top version of the 650i – for only 600 000 rubles. That big car for that little money? It's understandable. The maintenance costs are very high.

What buyers check

  • 3.0 R6/N52B30 (258 hp) - 630i (2004-2007)
  • 3.0 R6/N53B30 (272 hp) - 630i (2007-2010)
  • 4.4 V8/N62B44 (333 hp) - 645Ci (2003-2005)

  • 3.0 R6/M57D30 (286 hp) - 635d (2007-2010)

There are always a few surprises for BMW 6 owners. This is the notorious oil release due to clogged (freezing in winter) ventilation system of crankcase gases or a faulty pressure relief valve. On excessively large consumption of oil will tell the gray smoke from the exhaust pipe.

Over time, the cooling system hoses lose their resistance. In the case of the V8, the pipe is located in the collapse of the block. To replace it, you will have to disassemble the engine floor. Oscillations of idling speeds are caused by air suction or malfunctions of sensors, including the air flowmeter.

After 100-150 thousand km often gives a pump flow (from 3000 rubles for an analogue) or a radiator (15 000 rubles).

The 3-liter six-cylinder N52 is perhaps the most reliable in the lineup. The N53 direct injection, which appeared after the restyling, began to cause more problems.

Petrol V8 after 150-200 thousand km often begin to take oil. To reduce appetite is possible after replacing oil caps. To do this, ideally, it is necessary to remove the engine, but many masters do without dismantling the unit.

After 200-250 thousand km, the risk of bullies on the walls of the N62 cylinders increases due to the occurrence of rings. Capital repairs with silting will cost 200-250 thousand rubles.

Biturbodiesel version 635d is not reliable even in Europe with its “hothouse” conditions.

Transmission

All engines were combined with 6-speed gearboxes - mechanical and automatic. The mechanics are quite reliable, and the clutch in normal conditions survives up to 200,000 km.

Until 2007, the ZF 6HP26 was used, and since 2007, its modified and more durable version of the 6HP28 was used. The automatic transmission can come for repair after 150-200 thousand km. Faults are usually associated with failure of the hydraulic transformer (about 80 000 rubles for elimination), a little less often - mechatronics (over 100 000 rubles).

A plastic pallet of automatic transmission can also be brought up. It leads to heat over time. In addition, the pallet could even burst in severe frost. The cost of its replacement, together with transmission oil, will be about 30,000 rubles.

Walking

Factory silent blocks of the front levers were surrendered after 100,000 km (about 1000 rubles for one Silentblock). The rear levers are more tenacious (4000 rubles for an N-shaped lever).

The steering rack wears out very quickly. Sometimes it can barely withstand 100,000 km - there is a leak or knock. The cost of repairs is high – about 25 000 rubles.

A number of cars fell under the service action to replace the vacuum pump of the brake system. The rest had to repair or change it after about 150-200 thousand km (9-16 thousand rubles).

Other problems and malfunctions

In the process of operation, there are both small and large malfunctions.

Among the trifles, it is possible to note the failure of the cooling system of the ECU compartment and electronics. Replacement will require a motor. The original costs 10,000 rubles, but you can do with a Chinese analogue from the Internet for 200 rubles.

In pre-restyling BMW 6 often died head unit SSS. Replacing the used version did not make any sense, so the malfunction could soon manifest itself again. Some electricians are ready to return the life of the unit for 10-20 thousand rubles. But it is much preferable to introduce an analogue from the BMW 5 series E60.

At large runs can sway the generator - wear out brushes, or refuses the voltage regulator (2-4 thousand rubles).

Challenges of selling privately

The BMW 6 is a dream come true. The main thing is to show patience and composure when searching, as well as to have a decent supply of funds for maintenance and repair. Only then will the German “six” not disappoint you.

Choosing a particular version is a matter of taste. The most popular models with 8-cylinder engines. The M6 and Alpina are fascinating, but they are significantly more expensive in cost and content. The most preferred restyled modifications collected after 2007.

  • Engines: Idle speed fluctuations are caused by air suction or sensor malfunctions, including air flowmeters. After 100-150 thousand.
  • Transmission: automatic transmission can come for repair after 150-200 thousand km.
  • Walking: Sometimes it barely can withstand 100,000 km - there is a leak or knock.
  • Other problems and malfunctions: In the process of operation, there are enough small and large malfunctions.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
