What buyers check

Model history

The history of the Chevrolet Corvette began in the 50s. The sixth generation of the model was first presented in 2004 at the North American Auto Show in Detroit. Production of the car began in 2005. The assembly was made in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The sports car was offered in two body options: targa and convertible.

In 2006, Chevrolet dealers appeared in the top 512-horsepower version of the Z06 with a 7-liter gasoline V8. But that wasn’t the peak of GM’s engineers’ capabilities, and three years later, the 647-horsepower ZR1 was introduced to the world.

In 2008, the 6-liter engine was replaced by a more powerful volume of 6.2 liters. There were also some minor changes to the interior.

Production of the C6 model was completed in February 2013. The successor model (C7) was presented a month earlier – in January 2013.

Engines

It does not matter what you choose: a basic 405-horsepower engine or a top-end return of 647 hp. If you have never driven a car like this, you can hardly feel the difference. In the arsenal of the Chevrolet Corvette there are no engines that can not cope with this relatively light car. You will always get the most pleasure by squeezing the gas pedal into the floor.

However, it is worth noting that versions with units with a capacity of 405 to 422 hp accelerate to 100 km / h in 4.8 and 4.4 seconds. The maximum speed is more than 300 km / h. In turn, the Z06 shoots up to 100 km / h in just 3.9 seconds and develops 320 km / h. The real cherry on the cake is ZR1, with a score of 3.2 seconds to 100 km / h and a top speed of 330 km / h. He is a leader with almost no competitors.

Expenses? It's up to the driver. It is hard to believe, but in a calm rhythm in the city, the 6-liter engine is able to be content with 10-11 l / 100 km. The fight for such a result is not easy. If you press the “washer on the floor”, the result will grow to about 30 l / 100 km. The most powerful modifications consume in the city from 15 to 35 liters per 100 km.

Refusal? Corvette C6 owners don’t complain about frequent problems. Among the most vulnerable areas of the engines should be noted the current coolant pump and short-lived pulley crankshaft. These components have very little resource. There are also cases of oil leakage in the area of the oil radiator and oil crankcase. There have been isolated incidents of valve damage.

Design features

The suspension of the Chevrolet Corvette C6 has a typical scheme for this model. Front - a system of independent levers, and behind - leaf springs and a system of levers. At the request, the Corvette was equipped with shock absorbers with variable damping characteristics - Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The torque on the wheels could be transmitted through a 5 or 6-speed manual transmission, or a 6-band automatic.

Security? The C6 corvette, like most sports cars, has not been involved in crash tests conducted by independent organizations.

Typical malfunctions

The absence of a large number of serious comments on the engines does not mean that the sports car is completely fault-free. First of all, before buying a C6, you need to check the power steering pump. He doesn't tolerate aggressive driving very well. The steering rods are not very durable, and tail sweep ends with rapid wear of the hub bearings and stabilizer racks. Another weakness of the suspension is the current shock absorbers. In more "exhausted" instances, the rear differential may soon fail.

The resource of the automatic transmission is high, but sports driving affects its performance. For “frequent races” more enduring mechanics are preferred.

In versions with a soft folding top, the roof folding mechanism can creak anxiously or creak. The owner also complains about jamming doors. It also causes inconveniences and a keyless access system. The locks are unlocked, but the engine does not start. In some instances, seat belts are wiped too delicate upholstery.

Electricity has its quirks, too. Then the adjustment of the seats does not work, then the head unit fails, or one of the columns falls silent. Sometimes the lights go out. A common phenomenon is the light-decay indication on the dashboard. But you should not be afraid of corrosion. The body of the car is made of lightweight composites that are not familiar with rust.

Challenges of selling privately

Chevrolet Corvette C6 buy primarily for excellent dynamics, a formidable roar of the exhaust system, good driving qualities and unique design. If you have dreamed of such a car all your life, then you should not list all the advantages. But if you’re looking at the Corvette, it’s much cheaper than a close-aged Porsche 911, much more reliable than a Ferrari F430, and much cheaper to maintain than a Lamborghini Gallarado. Even if you are thinking about the Audi RS6 C6 or BMW M5 E60, the Corvette is a more profitable price alternative.

However, the American sports car is not a model of perfection. With an aggressive manner of driving, there will be no end to gas station visits. The quality of the plastic is disgusting. The technological solutions used are not the most modern. For example, the OHV type of HRM system (reliable, but outdated and inert). To this it is worth adding the problem of finding a well-groomed specimen. Most of the cars were imported from the United States, which were in the bumpers, met with poles or were flooded. During the inspection, you need to be very careful.

  • The history of the Chevrolet Corvette began in the 50s.
  • Engines: The most powerful modifications consume in the city from 15 to 35 liters per 100 km. Refusal?
  • Design features: The suspension of the Chevrolet Corvette C6 has a scheme typical of this model.
  • Typical faults: The absence of a large number of serious comments on the engines does not mean that the sports car is completely trouble-free.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
