Review
As a result of the joint efforts of the concern PSA and Toyota, three small cars appeared: Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo. All three were assembled in the same factory and differed only in minor details.
Citroen C1 of the first generation was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005. The first cosmetic changes were made in 2008 and represented a light redesign of the front of the car. The second reconstruction took place in 2012. The front and back parts were rejuvenated. In addition, the Citroen C1 received daytime running lights with LED technology. Today, the second generation of the little Frenchman is offered.
The Citroen C1 was conceived as a cheap city car. The fact that this is a city car eloquently convince the silhouette and size. Compact length of only 3435 mm, and width of 1630 mm, wheelbase - 2340 mm. Such sizes in urban congestion are a real advantage. Small dimensions, of course, facilitate movement in narrow streets and maneuvering in cramped parking lots.
The unpainted insert of the front and rear bumper protects the lacquered parts from damage from accidental contact. The plastic element changes separately, regardless of the main part of the bumper. This scheme simplifies repair, eliminating the need to repaint the entire bumper, which is much more expensive and more difficult.
Thunderbolts
One of the engines that was equipped with Citroen C1, a modern three-cylinder gasoline engine with a working volume of 1 liter and a capacity of 68 hp. The powertrain is designed by Toyota and is relatively rare to cause problems. The three-cylinder engine is well heard in the cabin, and at low revs, a slight vibration is felt.
The motor, thanks to the variable phases of gas distribution, is cheerfully gaining momentum. In combination with long gears, it allows you to reach 100 km / h at second speed. However, driving at high speeds significantly reduces the level of comfort. Sharp operation of the gas pedal causes unpleasant noise, which easily penetrates into the poorly insulated cabin. This disadvantage Citroen C1 compensates for the low fuel consumption. In a dynamic urban flow, the compact consumes about 7-8 liters of gasoline per 100 km. The driver with a “light right foot” in the city will calmly fit into 6-7 l / 100 km.
Interior and equipment
The hum during movement, coming from the engine compartment, the result of savings on noise insulation materials. Unfortunately, the creators of the Citroen C1 saved on noise insulation of wheel arches, not even putting a plastic backing. As a result, sand and stones from the wheels are drummed on bare metal. In addition, in the gaps between the bumper and the back belt gets dirt, which retains moisture, which subsequently leads to the appearance of the first foci of corrosion. The base Citroen C1 is completely empty. The glass is lowered using a handle, and the side mirrors are controlled by a hand manipulator located on the door rack. Here you will not find air conditioning, tachometer and factory audio system. Unfortunately, most compacts left the salons in this configuration. The front seats of the Citroen C1 are enough for two adults. In urban trips, low-lying seats do not cause discomfort, but with long routes, the hips will not receive support. There is also a lack of support for the lower back. The side rollers are in their infancy, and adjusting the angle of the backrest has too much of a step. The chair is not creaking and is held securely. On the back sofa, the situation is much worse: cramped, little legroom. In the three-door version, to get to the second row, you need to push the front seat as far as possible. Unfortunately, there is no memory settings, which forces you to re-select the optimal position of the seat. Citroen C1 is designed for four people. That's very good, as it's hard to imagine three tall gentlemen on the back of a car like this.
Typical problems and malfunctions
The adjustment of the mirrors in the base C1 should be done carefully. It is better to help the outside by pushing the mirror element in the right direction. Often the drive of the control breaks down. During operation, strange clicks may appear in the area of the door, and after visiting the wash inside the car, moisture is detected. It's all about the door seals. Unfortunately, the exchange for new ones solves the problem only for a while.
After several years of operation, the rigid plastic elements of the interior begin to creak. This is especially true of the front panel. The Citroen C1 center console is simple and intuitive. Above the fan speed control knob is a red alarm button. It is made of poor quality material, and therefore often cracks.
Sometimes there is an unpleasant resistance when changing gears. This is typical for the three: Citroen C1, Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 107. Difficulties with inclusion and backlash in the gear selection mechanism appeared in new cars after several thousand kilometers.
The front suspension is created on the McPherson racks, and the basis of the rear suspension is a beam. Simple and reliable solutions do not cause any problems. The sleeves and racks of the stabilizer are available at quite reasonable prices.

4Challenges of selling privately
Citroen C1 is more like a car for two people. The back seats are better used as an extra luggage space. The liter gasoline engine in urban conditions provides sufficient dynamics, it is surprisingly elastic and economical. Refusals are rare and consumables are inexpensive.
- In addition, the Citroen C1 received daytime running lights with LED technology.
- Engines: The powertrain is designed by Toyota and is relatively rare to cause problems.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
