Why buyers choose this model

Small French cars, adapted for trips around the city, are in demand. Citroen C2 is a rather unusual and dynamic model, produced for six years. It has not undergone significant changes since then. The French were probably guided by the principle that the best is the enemy of the good. Cars like the C2 effectively combat a persistent stereotype: French cars are a conglomerate of malfunctions that will eventually come to light.

What buyers check

Only four people.

Citroen C2 - one hundred percent urban. Even tall people in front feel comfortable, while access back is severely limited. The undoubted plus is a sliding back row. But two shortcomings should be noted. First, in the second row can only fit two people. There's just a couple of separate seats in the back. And secondly, after the sofa is completely shifted back, the trunk ceases to exist as such.

The trunk lid consists of two parts: the lower, reclining down, and the upper - rises with glass.

C2 can be irritated by foreign noise coming from different locations. On irregularities, strange sounds make a suspension. The upper part of the back door of the trunk also makes itself felt. Despite the high-quality assembly of the cabin, extraneous sounds emit plastic. You will have to get used to it, as well as to unusual digital devices.

Engines

The choice of engines for such a small car is quite wide. At the bottom of the range is a 1.1-liter unit with a capacity of 61 hp. It allows you to move from point A to point B.

For daily trips, a 1.4-liter engine is better suited - an 8- or 16-valve one. The latter became available after 2006.

More demanding will like a gasoline atmospheric volume of 1.6 liters. It has two varieties and both with a 16-valve block head. the 109-horsepower modification is not as impressive as the 1.6 VTS recoil of 125 hp. The Citroen C2 with this engine is a real sports car in the best traditions of the special version of Saxo.

There are two diesel units: 1.4 HDi with a capacity of 70 hp and 1.6 HDi / 109 hp (since 2006). Both engines are dynamic and economical. It is not enough, which car consumes less than 6 liters per 100 km.

All engines use a belt drive valve timing. Mechanics recommends to adhere to generally accepted rules - replacing the belt of the HRM every 3-5 years or 60-90 thousand km. The cost of a new set with rollers and pump - about 6-8 thousand rubles.

With age in gasoline engines can fail the thermostat (1-4 thousand rubles) or the coil / ignition module (5-6 thousand rubles). In addition, the valve cover gasket begins to pass the oil.

In diesel 1.4 HDI after 200-250 thousand km of run may require replacement of fuel injectors (about 30 000 rubles per piece). Faulty pouring nozzles, in turn, can contribute to the burnout of the piston and subsequent overhaul of the engine (about 70,000 rubles).

Transmissions

All engines were combined with both 5-speed mechanics and 5-band robot Sensodrive.

Among the common problems of transmissions, it is possible to note the leakage of the drive shafts after 100-150 thousand km.

The clutch of the ICPP passes over 100-150 thousand km. The new set is available for 6-9 thousand rubles.

A similar resource and clutch robotic gearbox (6-9 thousand rubles). Along the way, the fork and the guide of the squeeze bearing wear out.

In addition to clutch in the RKPP, the acuator may also require attention. Sometimes you can get rid of just replacing the brushes of the electric motor of the actuator. In extreme cases, the actuator has to be changed (15 000 rubles).

After 300,000 km, disruptions to AMT may occur due to a failure in the box control unit. You can treat the block by soldering out failed transistors.

It does not add to the longevity of the block and its unfortunate location. It is located directly on the case of the box, in direct access to dirt and moisture. Some caring owners transfer it under the air filter body.

Walking

On the front axle are Macpherson struts, and on the rear - a torsion beam. Citroen C2 with such a simple and time-tested combination behaves on the road not very confident. And on irregularities there is noise and unpleasant jumping.

The durability of the chassis elements is estimated as average, and repairs will not seem expensive.

So ball supports and silentblocks of the front levers can wear after 90-120 thousand km.

Sometimes, after 120-150 thousand km, the front hub bearing begins to make noise. It changes separately from the hub (1-2 thousand rubles).

After 150-200 thousand km can knock the steering rack. For repairs will ask about 9000 rubles.

Other problems and malfunctions

Most Citroen C2 owners are positive about reliability, but there are also those who face problems. For example, claims arise against the electrician. Fortunately, it's mostly small things.

And after 200-250 thousand km of run can sway the generator. Usually it is possible to do with the replacement of the voltage regulator (from 1000 rubles).

Soon it is the turn of the starter’s bendix (about 900 rubles for an analogue).

Citroen did not stint on the equipment of the C2. Many cars are air conditioned, and some even have six airbags, navigation and parking sensors.

Other versions

In rally racing Citroen became famous for such models as Saxo and Xsara. On the basis of the C2, a sports version was also created for performances in the Super 1600 class. However, with the civil counterpart they are united only by the name. For those who want to feel like a rally car driver, but do not intend to give up everyday practicality, a limited edition C2 by Loeb was released. It was equipped exclusively with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 109 or 125 hp.

The unique C2 has also entered the Chinese market. It was just a slightly re-image of the Peugeot 206.

Model history

2003 – Citroën C2 debuted in the European market as the successor to the 3-door Saxo. It was based on the R2B (C2R2) and Super 1600 rally car.

2004 – the appearance on sale of the top pseudosports version of the VTS with 1.6/125 hp.

2006 – very modest facelift, changed rear optics. A limited edition was offered to C2 by Loeb.

2008 – another minor styling, touching the front bumper. In the line of engines appeared a new turbodiesel recoil 110 hp. The Stop & Start system is now available.

Challenges of selling privately

Prices on the market start at 110 000 rubles, and end in the region of 300 000 rubles. Half of the cars are equipped with an automated transmission Sensodrive. Diesel copies among the proposals are few, and they are more expensive.

The second-hand Citroen C2 is tempting with price and unprecedented equipment (by class standards). Two doors and average practicality determine its true operating conditions – the city. The cost of maintenance will be at an acceptable level.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
