What buyers check

Review

The source of inspiration for the designers who worked on the Citroen C6, was the legendary model DS. There's no better prototype. The project received a wedge shape with a long hood and a neat short stern. The shape of most body panels is simple and even original. Five should be put to the French developers behind the windows of amazing shape. The door windows, in the manner of a coupe, are devoid of frames. Undoubtedly, the most interesting stylistic accent is considered a concave rear glass. According to the designers, this not only makes a powerful impression, but also reduces the intensity of glass pollution during movement. The level of emotions does not subside even after taking a seat in the salon. You feel like you're in a special way inside. Simple and even minimalist dashboard does not overload the driver with information, and elegant finishing with wooden panels gives elegant features. Speed and rev values are displayed on the electronic display, and the level of standard equipment exceeds German competitors. Already in the basic version, the Citroen C6 had leather upholstery, electric seats, climate control, cruise control, xenon headlights, 9 airbags and ESP. The Citroen C6 salon is huge. Inside, 5 adults will be seated, and each of them will have enough room for the legs. The chairs provide real comfort and therefore do not cause back pain even when travelling long distances. In French cars, as a rule, materials of not the highest quality are used. The Citroen C6 is moving away from that rule.

Walking

Comfort during movement provides seats, but to a greater extent for this is responsible suspension. On the front and rear axles, a multi-link system is used, which is supplemented by a branded third-generation hydropneumatic suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers. Citroen C6 can’t be said to overcome irregularities – it floats above them. Neither knocks nor shakes penetrate into the cabin, so passengers may not even know about the deplorable condition of the pavement on this section of the road. But the soft suspension makes it impossible to dynamically pass steep turns. Even in the sport suspension mode, the body is strongly swinging from side to side, and the car behaves insecurely.

The Frenchman's suspension is complex, but it has a reputation for being quite hardy. Usually, the first serious defects appear after 250-300 thousand km. The front levers are slightly less able to withstand. They may require replacement after 100,000 km. Repairing hydropneumatics and replacing electronically controlled shock absorbers is monstrously expensive. These elements are a must check point when choosing Citroen C6.

Engines

Citroen C6 was most often equipped with a 2.7-liter V6 turbodiesel. Due to the dual boost system, the power plant develops 204 hp. Fastback accelerates to 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds. The maximum speed is 230 km/h. In the urban cycle, Citroen burns 12 liters of diesel fuel. Outside the city, the figure drops to 6.8 liters. The split exhaust sounds very beautiful. The engine is very elastic and pulls well from the bottom. At the same time, it could be more reliable.

One of the defects is problems with adjustable valves. Symptoms are a knock immediately after starting. In addition, there are hardware failures, including transfusion nozzles and a failed turbocharger. And when running more than 200,000 km, the crankshaft can even collapse. Constant check of condition requires metal pipes of cooling system. They are subject to corrosion, which leads to leaks of coolant and as a result to overheating of the engine and subsequent expensive repairs.

Other problems and malfunctions

The Citroën C6 is a typical Frenchman. The problems here are typically French. The main problem for fastback owners is capricious electronics. For example, from time to time, the display of the instrument panel for no apparent reason turns into a Christmas tree, glowing with all light signals. In addition, the automatic transmission is quite troublesome in maintenance and repair. The message about the need to change the oil in the automatic transmission can be read only with the help of a special diagnostic device. Most often, solenoids (electromagnetic valves) are denied in the machine, less often the hydroblock itself.

Most of the spare parts used in the Citroën C6 are similar to the Citroën C5 and Peugeot 407. Finding and purchasing them, given the wide range of substitutes, will not be expensive. In the case of other devices (for example, electronics), the owner will have to contact authorized service centers for help or purchase original parts via the Internet. The final cost will be unattractive – operating costs will increase significantly.

Challenges of selling privately

The long list of advantages and striking beauty failed to convince the Europeans to buy the Citroen C6. During 7 years of production in the period from 2005 to 2012, only 24,000 copies were sold. For the E-Class, this is a very bad result. The low popularity of the C6 has made it one of the rarest and most original cars on our roads. The huge loss in value has led to the prices of used copies being more than attractive. Citroen C6 is very rare, very original and relatively cheap. No competitor will offer you so much for so little.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
