2What buyers check
Model history
The Citroën C8, which debuted in 2002, is the result of a joint collaboration between the French concern PSA and the Italian Fiat. At the same time, 3 more similar minivans were presented: Fiat Ulysse, Lancia Phedra and Peugeot 807. The models differ in style details and engines, but share a common platform. This means that you do not have to complain about the lack of spare parts.
In 2008, the great Frenchman experienced a restyling. The changes only touched the details. A characteristic feature is a chrome lamel on the upper part of the front bumper and doors.
Body and interior
The Citroen C8 is a very comfortable car. The large width (185 cm) guarantees more than enough space for all passengers. It is noteworthy that the minivan is designed for eight people. In the trunk you can install two separate seats or a small three-seater sofa. However, the maximum number of seats limits the amount of luggage to 225 liters. In the standard 5-seat configuration, the cargo compartment capacity is increased to 830 liters.
Equipment
One of the advantages of the model is a decent serial equipment. All copies have air conditioning, good quality audio system and electric windows. A popular option is large rear sliding doors with electric drive. It is a shame that over the years they stop working properly.
Depending on the version, various instrument panels were installed. The C8 has three round pointers without navigation, and the navigation copies don’t. Factory navigation is not the model’s strength, and the accuracy of the original maps is simply terrible.
Suspension
Unlike the C5 and C6, the Citroen C8 was offered only with a conventional spring suspension. It has a simple design, durable and cheap to repair. On the front axle run McPherson struts, and on the rear - a rigid beam with Panar thrust.
Engines
The list of offers is dominated by diesel versions with 2.0 HDi and 2.2 HDi. Both units have a similar design. The choice can be dictated only by the technical condition of a particular instance. In addition to the belt of the timing (from 8000 rubles), the shafts of these units are connected by a chain (from 1500 rubles). In addition to the typical problems of modern turbo diesel engines, such as a two-mass flywheel (from 21 000 rubles), injectors (from 18 000 rubles), an EGR valve (from 12 000 rubles) and a turbocharger (from 50 000 rubles), we have to take into account the need for maintenance of the particulate filter. It is subject to periodic replacement every 150,000 km (from 27,000 rubles). And after reaching this point, it may be necessary to refuel the liquid EOLYS (liquid catalyst). The cost of a 3-liter canister with a kit for refueling is from 12,000 rubles. The life of the particulate filter depends not only on the operating conditions (it is filled more quickly with frequent trains in the city), but also on the condition of the injection system, which can withstand up to 200,000 km. Among the common disadvantages are the loss of tightness in the boost system, rapid wear of the crankshaft pulley (from 5000 rubles) and clutch (from 9000 rubles). An alternative to diesel is gasoline atmospheric engines. They are cheaper to maintain, but because of the large mass of the car (over 1600 kg) consume a lot of fuel. Fortunately, if necessary, you can install gas equipment – the engines are quite well tolerated work on gas.
Typical problems and malfunctions
Citroen C8 with automatic transmission is better not to consider. The automatic transmission increases fuel consumption and is not reliable. Relatively quickly wears out and the pump power steering (from 6000 rubles).
In the well-kept specimen, the cabin shows no noticeable signs of wear up to almost 200,000 km. The steering wheel is the first to give in. Over time, armrests cease to be fixed in the unfolded state, and the chairs begin to fold with difficulty.
The roof and glass roof provide a pleasant atmosphere. However, over the years they lose their tightness. You can go to the wash for inspection. And because of the insufficient rigidity of the body, the windshield often cracks. There are also problems with the rear side doors. They also have a stained coating underneath them.
Sometimes electrical and electronics are inconvenient. There are false messages about errors in systems, various modules (mainly responsible for comfort) fail, and the hatch and glass are jammed in the open position. Before buying, you should definitely check the functioning of the air conditioning control panel and the operation of the steering switches.
In the copies collected before November 2004, in severe frosts, problems with the brake booster were observed. The system accumulated condensate, which was frozen, blocking the work of the amplifier. The manufacturer has modified the unit, installing an additional ventilation system with a filter.

4Challenges of selling privately
The Citroen C8 is a car that can be considered for those looking for a big family car for a little money. There are no cars that never break down. If even the most famous manufacturers can not guarantee a restful sleep, then why overpay? The French minivan is cheaper than its main competitors VW Sharan, Seat Alhambra and Ford Galaxy. The only concern is that in a couple of years the C8 will lose even more in price, and it will be difficult to resell it.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
