2What buyers check
Engines
In the asset Ford Kuga gasoline engine 2.5 liters with turbocharging capacity of 200 hp and turbodiesel working volume of 2.0 liters - 136, 140 and 163 hp. The Kuga petrol unit has no major problems, thanks to its reliable, time-tested design. The gas distribution mechanism is driven by a gear belt. Diesel engines have a chain drive valve timing. Unlike its gasoline-powered sibling, diesel engines sometimes have a little trouble with their owners. But serious interventions and repairs, as a rule, it does not come to pass. More often, problems are caused by air suction in the fuel system or at the intake. Some owners note a noticeable vibration when the engine is running at idle or during intensive acceleration at the time of passage of the arrow of the speed indicator range 1800 - 2100 rpm. Vibrations at idle in winter contribute to the tanning in the cold engine support cushions. To reduce harmful emissions, a DPF particulate filter is installed in the exhaust gas exhaust system of turbodiesels. Depending on the modes of operation of the diesel Ford Kuga approximately once every 1000 km when driving on the highway or 500 km - in the urban cycle, the particulate filter regeneration mode is started. At the same time, the hourly fuel consumption at idle mode increases from the usual 0.5-0.6 l / h to 2.0 l / h, a caustic smell of burning appears and the fan of the cooling system works. The duration of the process is on average about 5 minutes. When driving along the road, the regeneration process is almost not noticeable.
Transmission
All Kuga engines are combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. The gasoline unit is also equipped with a 5-speed “automatic” of the company “Aisin”, and the diesel engine is equipped with a robotic 6-speed Power Shift from Getrag. Problems with transmissions from owners of Ford Kuga does not arise. The Haldex clutch is responsible for connecting the rear axle. The Ford Kuga was originally fitted with a third-generation coupling, which causes a lot of problems. Later, the coupling of the fourth generation, which has a more reliable design, came in place. The third generation of couplings gave up when running more than 40-60 thousand km due to the failure of the pump. For the new pump had to lay out about 20-25 thousand rubles. The 4th generation coupling pump is more durable. Failure of the pump can lead to failure of the control unit of the DEM clutch. The new module is not cheap - from 80 to 100 thousand rubles. The block failure is caused by the burnout of the tracks in the block. Some electricians are able to repair a faulty module, which is much cheaper than buying a new one. Most often, problems with the pump appear in severe frosts. The pump can not cope with thickened oil and the brushes of the electric pump begin to burn. There's a short circuit. The 7.5A safety lock fails to work and the unit burns. To avoid this, replace the standard fuse with an analogue with a lower trigger limit - 5A. To contribute to the failure of the pump "Haldex" can and old oil in the coupling with a clogged oil filter. To save yourself from possible problems, you need to change the oil in the clutch together with the filter at least every 30 thousand km.
Walking
The suspension of the crossover firmly transfers movement on Russian roads. There are no obvious weaknesses in the running room. The stabilizer racks run more than 70-90 thousand km. New low-cost – about 600 rubles. By the same time, the sleeves of the front stabilizer are also suitable. Stage bearings walk more than 100-150 thousand km. The original will cost 2.5-3 thousand rubles, and the work on replacement – about 1000 rubles. Dealers for new hubs together with work ask about 6 thousand rubles. Shock absorbers serve more than 130-150 thousand km. Silent blocks of levers are surrendered when running more than 150-200 thousand km.
Other problems and malfunctions
There are no claims to the Kuga body iron. Some owners have faced "unsticking" the seam on the inside of the hood.
There are often cases of water in the cabin through seals of air conditioning tubes. Sometimes the blame for the leak lies on the dried sealant of welds under the outer plastic lining at the bottom of the windshield. The danger of this phenomenon is the ingress of water into electrical units, their failure, the appearance of electrical problems and, as a result, the expensive replacement of faulty units.
Over time, the leather braid of the steering wheel and the decorative case of the manual gear lever are wiped. As a rule, dealers recognize the case as a warranty and change the rubbed element.
Scream front seats recognized by the manufacturer design flaw. Some dealers replace the seat mounts. The rest eliminate creaking by lubricating the sled chairs.
Sometimes crickets appear at the junction of the door lining with the front panel or in the area of the seat belt tensioner. "branded" creaking of the back of the rear seat is eliminated by wrapping the latches with tape.
Electricity doesn't surprise you. Sometimes there are problems with the GEM module (external lighting and light alarm) or the overtaking clutch of the generator fails (3-4 thousand rubles).

4Challenges of selling privately
The Ford Kuga, as it may seem to many, turned out to be a pretty reliable car. This is confirmed by the high reliability ratings in German statistics. The only weak point of the crossover is the coupling “Haldex”.
- Engines: The Kuga petrol unit has no major problems, thanks to its reliable, time-tested design.
- Transmission: Problems with transmissions from owners of Ford Kuga does not arise.
- Chasing: Suspension crossover steadfastly transfers movement on Russian roads. There are no obvious weaknesses in the running room.
