Value my car1Why buyers choose this model
Ford is the largest pickup truck manufacturer in the United States. It's a huge continental market. The big cars that dominate American roads are not welcome in Europe and Asia. Including because of the voracious gasoline engines. So to be competitive in the global market, Ford had to come up with a completely different model. To do this, he used the decisions of Mazda, which belonged to the concern. The interior of the Ford Ranger is nothing special. Decent materials, good ergonomics, comfortable seats are the most desirable attributes that were available in the most expensive configurations Limited and Wildtrak. All common versions were equipped with two frontal airbags. For a surcharge, there was an opportunity to install side pillows. In the EuroNCAP safety test, conducted in 2008, the Ford Ranger did not perform very well, earning only two stars. But pickups were on the market with even worse results: the Nissan Navara before restyling and the Isuzu D-Max. Cons? Not a comfortable position on the back sofa, rather poor equipment of the basic versions: not all cars were equipped with air conditioning. The advantages of the Ford Ranger include a large load capacity - more than a ton, and in some versions even more. However, strong springs very negatively affect the stability of the car when passing cross-sectional irregularities. An empty ass is bouncing. The brakes are not efficient enough. The measured braking distance was 44 meters, which would have been acceptable ten years ago. Today, pickup trucks can stop at a distance of 37 meters. Ford did not experiment in the field of all-wheel drive. The Ranger has a simple scheme for hard-wiring the front axle without a central differential. Compared to competitors, the suspension Ford Ranger works worse, but geometric cross-country is better - thanks to small overhangs and high clearance.
2What buyers check
Typical problems and malfunctions
Japanese design is associated with high quality. But can a model made in Thailand boast durability? The overall picture isn’t bad, but picking a Ford Ranger requires a few drawbacks to be aware of. First, corrosion that affects the frame and body (especially in the rear of the cabin). However, pickups of other brands can not boast of its absence. It just needs a thorough inspection and possibly thorough protection against corrosion. In motion, springs often creak, but more often this is due to pollution. In steering, unlike most competitors, a simple mechanism is used instead of a screwed gear rail. This causes the accuracy of the control to suffer, but the solution itself is more reliable. The gearbox is strong but uses an intermediate arm. The engines are not problematic, and surprisingly, additional units too, such as the turbocharger and the two-mass flywheel. The motors have aluminum heads and cast iron blocks. The transmission often brings trouble. On copies until 2009 release quickly burns clutch. You should not count only on the replacement of the clutch. Ford also recommends installing new gears for first and second gears. A comprehensive repair in the official service will be very expensive. However, the process is not complicated by the complexity. The transmission, located longitudinally, is easy to remove and disassemble. You can reduce costs by leaving the old gears, and the clutch and two-mass flywheel replacing cheaper analogues.
Model history
The name Ranger appeared in the Ford Dictionary in 1965. It was a well-equipped F-150 pickup truck. As a standalone model, Ford Ranger made his U.S. debut in 1983. But the American version of the pickup has nothing to do with the European version. Ranger, created in collaboration with Mazda, was introduced in 1999. After the upgrade in 2004, an interesting solution was applied: the one-and-a-half cabin was deprived of a central rack between the swing doors, which facilitated landing and disembarkation. The same scheme was used in the next generation pickup truck. Apart from the significant design changes in 2011, the Ford Ranger did not receive any major upgrades.

4Challenges of selling privately
Should you be afraid of the Ford Ranger? When you find out the cost of repairing a gearbox, or think about the corrosion of the body and frame, then certain fears, of course, arise. But the described problems were not widely distributed, and were eliminated after restyling. Corrosion, to a greater or lesser extent, is characteristic of other pickups. The reliability of the engine deserves special attention. But the chassis can be a little upsetting. The updated model attracts interesting design. As for everyday practicality. The front is comfortable and the back is quite tight. The suspension is rigid and the brakes are not efficient enough. The engine does not admire the dynamics, but it pulls well from the bottom.
