Why buyers choose this model

Introduced in 2006, the 8th generation Honda Civic was a breakthrough in many ways. Futuristic appearance (similar to a spaceship), unusual platform (with a fuel tank in the center), new engines (debut of the R series) and excellent transportation capabilities (the luggage compartment of the hatchback reaches 456 liters). As a result, it is still in good demand in the secondary market. This is despite the relatively high prices and some shortcomings in quality.

What buyers check

Sophistication in every detail

The successor, shown in the fall of 2011, was to be a machine perfected in detail. During the project work, the collected feedback from owners, sellers and journalists was taken into account.

The result? Very good. Although the Honda Sivik 9 has lost a bit of originality compared to its predecessor, it has performed well in terms of quality, reliability and durability. This is a polished compact, in which you can find only minor shortcomings.

When you ask mechanics specializing in repairing Honda cars, how they assess the reliability of the model, servicemen shrug their shoulders and say that with regularly serviced Siwicks, in principle, nothing happens. It is a really well-designed compact with a very strong filling. Yes, mechanics have heard of failures to heat exterior mirrors, corrosion of the contacts of the rear door tourniquet or ailments of side airbags. But these problems are rare and difficult to describe as serious, especially when compared to the setbacks that have plagued European competitors in recent years.

Only the little things are unpleasant.

Nevertheless, there are comments. For example, the plastic of the middle racks creaks while driving, and the seals of the rear doors jump during the boarding of passengers. In addition, the protective case of the gear selector of the manual is wiped. Just as with the predecessor, owners complain of soft paint. That’s all if you point to recurring problems. The rest is to be spoken of only to a superb degree. For example, performance. You can count on a spacious cabin and a spacious trunk of a hatchback - 477-1342 liters. And thanks to the Magic Seats system, you can easily and quickly fold the back sofa by lifting the seat, which will allow you to transport a flower or a bicycle. This solution is present in the sedan, which also works well for the role of a family car. The capacity of his trunk is 440 liters. The quality of the finish (plastic, upholstery and assembly), which was the Achilles heel of its predecessor, can be appreciated much higher. The noise insulation of the cabin has significantly improved. However, while driving on the high-speed highway, do not wait for blissful silence in the cabin. In any case, you can count on driver assistance systems and a developed mithymedia system. Many Civics are well equipped. Among the offers, the advantage is the Comfort (6 airbags, LED daytime running lights, climate control and alloy wheels R16) and Sport (additionally: rear-view camera, automatic windshield wiper, steering wheel, leather-covered and 17-inch wheels).

Engines

The palette of engines opens 100-horsepower gasoline atmospheric volume of 1.3 liters (commercial designation "1. 4"), borrowed from its predecessor. This version is for staid drivers with a very calm disposition, who, to the detriment of dynamics (13 seconds to a hundred), count on reasonable fuel consumption (an average of 6.7 liters). The durability of the 1.8 engine (R series) should be highly appreciated. This is the best choice for this model. Compared to its predecessor, the power increased by 2 liters. with. But Honda wasn't limited to software changes. The engine also underwent some improvements. In particular, the pistons are coated with molybdenum disulfide. It not only affected durability, but also dynamics. 142-horsepower Civic 1.8 accelerates to "hundred" in less than 9 seconds - a great result. Average fuel consumption? It all depends on the style and driving conditions. It is mainly about 8 l/100 km. Outside the city, ECON mode can easily reach less than 6 litres. ECON mode limits the operation of the air conditioner and throttle. Diesel engines (exotic for our market) are even more economical. Until the end of 2013, 2.2 i-DTEC / 150 hp was offered, and from January 2013 until the end of production - 1.6 i-DTEC / 120 hp. Both are described as reliable and durable. However, they are very expensive to repair. The top-end Civic 9 didn’t appear until 2015. The Type R surprised everyone. For the first time, a 2-liter turbo engine was used. It develops power of 310 hp. and 400 Nm of torque.

Characteristic problems and malfunctions:

  • Corrosion of contacts is rare, but sometimes occurs. This is the result of water getting into the harness (poor insulation). The solution is to clean the contacts or replace the tourniquet.
  • Opening the rear windows after closing the car and folding the mirrors. This error often occurs after using the “ventilation” function, i.e. opening all windows by holding the button on the remote. The computer needs to be retrained.
  • SRS indicator (airbag error) As with the corrosion of the rear door harness contacts, failure is very rare. Its source is a set of side airbags. The problem affected mainly cars of the initial production period. The defective pillows were changed within the guarantee.
  • Wear of the leather substitute protective cover of the ICS lever. This is the only drawback of the interior. Poor quality material cracks on the curves. Over time, the manufacturer corrected this misunderstanding.

Challenges of selling privately

The Honda Civic IX is recommended with a clear conscience. It looks good, has a reliable running and, importantly, has a longevity. The owner can also count on practicality. Deficiencies? There aren't many. First of all, it is a high cost. Original parts are not cheap, of course.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
