Turbocharging? Never in my life. True power is achieved at high speeds. Honda has adhered to this principle for many years, since the days of the Honda N360 (1967), the engine of which developed a sensational power - 86 hp per liter of volume at 8000 rpm.

This model was created for the purpose of approval in sports group N. Honda lost money on every car sold.

Over the next decades, Honda continued to admire fantastic high-speed engines. When the VTEC valve lifting system was introduced in 1989, the sporty character became even more expressive. The fastest Honda ever available in Europe was the DC2 Integra Type-R (offered from 1998 to 2000). Although the car is relatively young, it has the status of a legend.

The engine does not overheat, but consumes a small amount of oil and requires 98th gasoline.

The B18 engine, which drives the front wheels of Integra, has a volume of 1.8 liters and develops 190 hp at 8000 rpm. This is one of the few cars that can boast of such indicators. To achieve full power, the Integra engine really needs high speeds. The change in the characteristics of the VTEC system occurs when it reaches 5500 rpm, which is accompanied by a loud roar.

On the other hand, in the lower rev range, the B12 engine has a typical civilian character: quiet, economical, with a smooth increase in thrust. Simply put, it is suitable for daily commutes, consuming up to 10 liters in the urban cycle, and up to 8 liters on the highway.

The suspension is also of a dual nature. When driving quietly, it is comfortable and not too stiff. However, the incredible potential of the running machine is revealed with vigorous movement. Integra is very clearly entering the corners and tenaciously stands on the arc. For European hot hatches of those years, such obedience and stability were unattainable.

The only drawback (according to experts) is the insufficiently accurate steering in the near-zero zone. But, despite this, the Integra Type-R has repeatedly received the prestigious title of “best driver front-wheel drive car” (according to the English magazine EVO).

Pay attention to the quality of plastic in the cabin is not worth it. Here the main thing is the ideal sports position behind the wheel and the minimum of details that distract attention.

Rust and malfunction

The body is not well protected from corrosion, and numerous damages only accelerate the oxidation process of the metal. Rust develops mainly on the wings, but often attacks the tank and fuel lines.

The rest of the faults are not difficult to fix. Quite intensive operation in sports mode leads to an increase in oil consumption (much less than 1 l / 1000 km) and the appearance of grinding from the gearbox (wear synchronizers and bearings). And yet, overall, the car shows exemplary endurance. And the wear of upholstery is a defect purely cosmetic.

The outstanding durability of the suspension and clutch, which without much protest, tolerate the sports ambitions of the owner, draws attention. Potential buyers can be reassured: finding and buying spare parts will not be a problem.
