What buyers check

Review

Hyundai Creta debuted in 2014 in the Chinese market under the designation ix25. A year later, it appeared in India under the name Creta.

The subcrossover hit the Russian market in 2016. The assembly was carried out at the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg.

The model is based on the PB platform, shared with the Hyundai i20 hatchback.

Security

The basic versions of Hyundai Creta were equipped only with frontal airbags. Side cushions and curtains were offered in richer trim levels.

Creta’s safety level was first tested in Latin America in 2015. Latin NCAP crash tests are voluntary and paid for by the manufacturer. The test program includes two impacts: frontal with 40% overlap and lateral. The methodology of the test is in accordance with the European one, and the car under study should be in the minimum configuration with a basic set of airbags.

Hendai paid only for the frontal strike. The result was very good - the consequences for the driver and front passenger are minimal. Since the testing for side impact was not carried out, the car was awarded 4 stars out of 5 possible.

A good result was demonstrated in independent tests of ARCAP conducted by the magazine "Autorevue". Analysis here also subject to frontal impact with a 40% overlap. In 2018, the subcrossover earned 5 stars, gaining 15.7 points out of 16 possible.

Engines

In the asset Hyundai Creta only two engines – atmospheric gasoline four-cylinder units with a volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters.

The base 1.6/G4FG is owned by the Gamma family. The engine is familiar from Solaris and Rio. In all-wheel drive versions, its power was slightly reduced - from 123 to 121 hp.

2-liter G4NA engines with a recoil of 149 hp - representatives of the Nu family. They are known for the Hyundai i40 sedan, as well as the crossovers Tussan and Sportage.

Both units have a long-lasting chain type valve timing drive. Adjustment of the valve gap in 1.6 is mechanical (selection of pushers), and in 2.0 hydrocompensators are used.

The catalytic converter of the 1.6 gasoline often begins to crumble after 30-60 thousand km. The neutralizer particles can get into the cylinders, which will lead to the appearance of bullies. However, in practice, the case of bullies comes extremely rarely. Everything is limited to detecting the destruction of the catalyst (using an endoscope) and removing it. However, there are specimens that have traveled over 200,000 km on the native converter.

The danger of bullies exists in the 2-liter engine. But here too, the cases are isolated. And the reason is not the neutralizer, but the miscalculation of engineers. Since March 2017, G4NA has been installing oil nozzles to cool pistons. This has practically prevented the formation of bullies on the walls of the cylinders.

The problem of premature destruction of the catalytic converter is also characteristic of the older 2.0. It usually manifests itself after 40-80 thousand km, but the formation of bullies does not threaten.

Transmissions

The base 1.6 could be combined with both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic. the 2-liter engine was paired only with an automatic.

The machine (A6GF1/A6MF2) is reliable and does not cause any complaints. Remember to update the oil in the box every 60,000 km.

Many owners of cars with manual transmission (M6CF1) complain about the twitching when switching. Some get rid of the disease by removing the clutch delay valve from the main clutch cylinder. Others change the clutch (6-12 thousand rubles per set).

Transmission

Initially, all-wheel drive was available only for 2-liter modifications. In 2017, it appeared in cars with an initial 1.6 (both manual transmission and automatic transmission).

The all-wheel drive system uses the same principle scheme as in other models of the brands, in particular, in Tuxan and Santa Fe.

For this transmission was characterized by one problem - corrosion of the slats connection at the connection of the transfer case and gearbox. In the case of the run, the slits were cut. On the repair had to spend about 60 000 rubles.

Careful owners of Cret, knowing about the potential problem, resort to a preventive measure - cleaning and applying lubrication to the slate compound (3-5 thousand rubles).

During the prevention process, in individual instances, there was a lack of lubrication in the sciatica compound, and the first traces of corrosion were found. But in most cases, the factory lubricant, albeit in small quantities, was present. Fortunately, no incident with the rolling of the sliz has not yet been recorded.

Walking

The front suspension of the classic type is Macpherson struts.

On the rear axis of front-wheel drive modifications, a semi-dependent beam is installed, unified with Elantra. All-wheel drive Cretes are equipped with a multi-link suspension, similar to Tussan.

In the steering of all-wheel drive versions, an electric amplifier with a motor on the shaft is used. The other cars have a classic hydraulic booster.

The chassis elements are quite hardy.

After 50-80 thousand km, it is necessary to update the stabilizer racks (900 rubles for an analogue).

And after 60-90 thousand km may require replacement of bearings of front shock absorbers (1200 rubles for the original).

A little later can make noise front hub bearings (1500-3000 rubles). They change separately from the hub.

Over time, the adjustment bolts of the collapse in the Silentblocks of the rear axle can become sour. For the replacement of bolts with silentblocks will have to pay about 8-14 thousand rubles.

Other problems and malfunctions

One of the most common problems Hyundai Creta – a flowering trunk lid. Small swelling was sometimes detected in the first year of operation. Official services repainted the lid for free under a warranty that is 5 years or 150,000 km.

Contrary to fears, the rest of the body parts are not prone to corrosion. However, there are isolated cases of corrosion on the frame of the door windows and the hood.

Some owners had to face premature wear of the upholstery of the steering wheel.

In cars with a 2-liter engine after 40-70 thousand km could ring muffler. It was usually changed under warranty.

Among the common defects should be noted malfunctions or failure of the boot button. A number of cars even fell under the service promotion to replace the button.

Challenges of selling privately

Although Hyundai Creta is not perfect, but serious problems can not be worried. As for concerns about the 1.6 petrol bully, it is reassuring that such incidents are still quite rare.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
