Value my car1Why buyers choose this model
Hyundai Elantra of the third generation debuted in 2000. She failed to win over the European public, who did not much favor the Asian appearance. The Elantra was positioned from the very beginning as a relatively affordable family car. It attracted interesting equipment, comfortable suspension and roomy interior. This is a very interesting option for inexperienced drivers. In Europe, the most widely used version in the body of the 5-door hatchback. Sedan is popular in Russia. The Hyundai Elantra was broken up by Europeans in 2001. She earned three stars out of five possible. In 2003, the model was restyled. Slightly updated optics, radiator grille, bumpers and front panel. Production was discontinued in 2006. A new life sedan found in 2008 on the Rossisky TagAZ. The car received the designation XD and 105-horsepower gasoline engine. Many owners believe that the quality of the Russian assembly was significantly inferior to the Korean one. In particular, due to the accuracy of fitting body parts and interior, as well as due to the use of a number of cheaper components. The XD only lasted two years on the assembly line. In 2010, the assembly of the sedan was stopped.
2What buyers check
Salon
Unpretentious interior design resembles, rather, the late eighties than the XXI century. However, the driver is much more important good readability of instruments and ergonomics. However, the landing is quite low, and the departure of the steering wheel is almost horizontal. Tall people have to push the chair back.
The back is quite comfortable, in particular, thanks to the long sofa cushion. There's plenty of space for the legs. I would like to have a little more space above my head. It will not disappoint the trunk with a capacity of 415 liters.
Engines
Under the hood you can find three gasoline engines with a volume of 1. 6, 1. 8, 2. 0 l and one diesel - 2. 0 CRDi. All power units are equipped with a temporary type of HRM drive, which requires updating every 60,000 km. In gasoline engines, the gear belt of the valve timing drives only one camshaft. The second camshaft is connected to the first by means of a short chain located on the opposite side of the temporary drive. The chain, as a rule, does not require attention up to 250-300 thousand km. Hydraulic valve gap compensators went only to the youngest - 1.6-liter unit. The other two have mechanical valve clearance adjustments, which are prescribed every 90,000 km. All gasoline engines are quite reliable and are able to pass without serious repair more than 500 000 km. 2. 0 CRDi with the Common Rail injection system works at idle without unnecessary vibrations. Among the vulnerabilities should be noted turbocharger and fuel pump high pressure. Sometimes the thermostat also fails. It can jam in the closed position, which leads to overheating of the engine and breakdown of the gasket under the head of the block. Common disadvantages include not too long-lasting radiator (4,000 rubles), which is given after 100,000 km. In the exhaust system, the bellows, a flexible connecting element, are destroyed. In rare cases, cracking of the exhaust collector occurs. After 100,000 km, the rear support of the engine (from 1,000 rubles) can fail. After 150-200 thousand km may require repair or replacement of the starter and generator (about 7 000 rubles for a new unit).
Transmission
The engines could be combined with either a 4-speed automatic transmission or with 5-speed mechanics. 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 105 hp and 2.0 CRDi were aggregated exclusively with manual transmission. Accordingly, Taganrog copies are only "on the handle".
One of the features of the mechanics is the difficulty with the inclusion of the first and rear gears (there are no synchronizers). Sometimes it causes difficulties and transition from 2 to 3. But overall, the box takes a long time. The clutch serves about 150-200 thousand km (from 3 000 rubles per set).
The machine may require repair after 200-250 thousand km. For this, you will need from 30 to 50 thousand rubles. To extend the life of automatic transmission, you should update the oil every 60,000 km.
SRUS dust (most often external) often cracks after 100-150 thousand km, which leads to failure of the hinge (from 3 000 rubles).
Walking
A relatively soft suspension is considered durable. However, some are haunted by a small, almost inexorable knock in the suspension.
Most often, you have to change the racks and bushings of the stabilizer, but this is the standard. Ball supports and Silentblocks, as a rule, go more than 100-150 thousand km. The same is true of shock absorbers.
Sometimes there are problems with the power steering. Update has to either flowing tube high pressure line or pump (about 9000 rubles). The steering rack begins to knock after 100-150 thousand km.
Front hub bearings will inform about wear characteristic hum after 80-120 thousand km (1 500 rubles for bearing).
Typical problems and malfunctions
The body of Hyundai Elantra is not prone to corrosion, but when inspecting, you should pay attention to the lower edge of the hood and doors, rear wheel arches and rapids.
When finishing the cabin, materials are not of the best quality. Cheap hard plastics all around. A heavily worn steering wheel and gear lever is not an indicator of mileage. Cheap leather substitutes were peeled off during the warranty period.
Sometimes there are malfunctions of the central lock and immobilizer. Over time, electrical connections in doors are corroded, which causes malfunctions in the operation of windows and speakers. Sometimes it is disconnected from the drive and the glass of the driver's door is shattered.

4Challenges of selling privately
There is a large selection of Elantra J3s in the secondary market. Among the proposals, cars with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine dominate. The price depends on the condition and lies in the range of 130-300 thousand rubles. But finding a really good copy is not easy. Taganrog copies are almost not inferior in reliability to the original. Low-quality components have probably already been replaced by the first owner.
- Salon: Unpretentious interior design resembles, rather, the late eighties than the XXI century.
- Engines: All petrol engines are reliable enough to pass more than 500,000 km2 without major repairs.
- Transmission: The machine may require repair after 200-250 thousand km. For this, you will need from 30 to 50 thousand rubles.
- Chasing: True, some are haunted by a small, almost inexorable knock in the suspension.
- Typical problems and malfunctions: the body of Hendai Elantra is not prone to corrosion, but when inspecting, you should pay attention to the lower edge of the hood and doors, rear wheel arches and rapids.
Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
