Why buyers choose this model

When Kia Optima entered the market in late 2010, it immediately started to collect positive reviews. Many people liked the car – it was modern and well-assembled. All sorts of tests proved that the Korean can compete on equal terms with the famous middle-class sedans. Spacious interior, spacious trunk (505 liters) and a good level of comfort are its main advantages. Potential buyers of Kia Optima were attracted by rich equipment, relatively low cost, reliability and a 5-year warranty. Is the Optima really a durable car that almost never breaks down? After a while, we can say that this is a good sedan, although not perfect. Some failures have occurred.

What buyers check

Engines

Russian Optims were equipped with atmospheric engines of 2 liters (G4KD) and 2.4 liters (G4KE). Europeans were available 2-liter petrol atmospheric and diesel 1.7 CRDi. In addition, they had a hybrid version with one of these engines. 136-horsepower 1.7 CRDi, although quite economical (6-6.5 l / 100 km), but too weak for a 1.6-ton sedan (especially with the "automatic"). 2-liter gasoline atmospheric much better copes with its task, but consumes an average of 10-11 l / 100 km. In the US market, in addition to the 2.4-liter GDI, a turbo engine 2. 0T (G4KH) was also offered. A 2.4 got under the hood of the "American" hybrid. Unfortunately, all versions of gasoline engines in some cases were sent for major repairs. This happened both during the warranty period and after 200-250 thousand km. The first harbinger could be an extraneous noise (knocking). In 2.0 CVVL, bullies were usually found, and in 2.4 and 2.0T, liners were turned. In the running case, the motor was wedged. The contract engine would cost about 100,000 rubles. But acquiring it would not guarantee the complete elimination of a recurrence of the problem. Therefore, many preferred to carry out a major overhaul of the engine with cylinder sledding - 100-150 thousand rubles. As for the causes, among the likely culprits bullies - the destroyed catalyst (usually in 2.0). To wear and twist the liners (characteristic of 2. 4) led to oil starvation due to miscalculation in the lubrication system. In favor of the latter, the engine is also modified by the manufacturer - additional oil injectors are installed.

Transmission

The problem of diesel versions with manual transmission is the work of clutch. Initially, dealers made a replacement clutch, but later it turned out that the fault of the unregulated main clutch cylinder. For example, in Kia Sportage it is adjustable and therefore does not create problems. The defect was later fixed.

There are no serious complaints about the machine yet. Only sometimes after 80-120 thousand km it is necessary to change the inhibitor (selector position sensor) cost 1600 rubles. When it fails, difficulties arise with the start of the engine. There are also complaints of tremors / kicks during switching, but repairs usually do not come.

In the crash tests of 2011, Kia Optima earned a maximum of 5 stars.

Walking

On the front axle are installed Macpherson struts, and on the rear - a multi-link scheme.

Front shock absorbers are usually handed over at a segment of 60-120 thousand km (from 3000 rubles for an analogue), the rear go more than 100-150 thousand km (from 2000 rubles).

Approximately similar service life have and Silentblocks of levers of the corresponding axis. Ball supports can wear out after 90-140 thousand km.

The bearing of the front shock absorbers (from 500 rubles per analogue) is 30-40 thousand km, while others reach 100-120 thousand km.

After 100-120 thousand km, it is necessary to change the front hub bearings (from 1300 rubles for an analogue plus 2000 rubles for work).

Owners are constantly complaining about knocks in the steering. Most often, the worn elastic coupling of an electric amplifier (from 100 rubles) is to blame.

The steering rack itself can also tap, for example, due to wear of the right support sleeve. The new rail will cost at least 18 000 rubles.

If you do not follow the anthers of the SRUS, which can lose weight after 100-150 thousand km, then you can kill the inner or outer hinge. In the original, both SRUS and anthers are assembled only with drives - more than 15 000 rubles. In case of defect detection, the faulty part will have to be selected.

After 5-7 years of operation, from time to time leaks of brake fluid through brake hoses are detected - often front (from 1500 rubles).

Other problems and malfunctions

When choosing Optima, you should check the state of the paint coating - scratches and chips appear quite quickly, which subsequently leads to the appearance of point foci of corrosion.

It is not of high quality and plastic in the cabin. It is susceptible to scratches and over time begins to creak. And to 70-100 thousand km rubbed the steering wheel. For the stretching will need about 4-6 thousand rubles.

Aesthetic body and pleasant interior are one of the advantages of the model. It is a pity that the quality of the materials is not the best. Range: 120,000 km.

There are also problems with onboard electronics. As a rule, the fault of the oxidized contacts, but sometimes the equipment itself hangs. For example, the BSD blind spot monitoring system is spontaneously shut down. After switching off and re-energizing the ignition, its performance is restored.

If necessary, you have to change the factory rearview camera. It loses its tightness, corrodes and breaks down. The original camera is available for 6000 rubles, the Chinese analogue can be picked up for 1000-1500 rubles.

On restyled samples, a rear lamp can pass moisture. This leads to the oxidation of contacts on the board, which is why part of the LED backlight is extinguished. The new headlight costs 27,000 rubles. Fortunately, some craftsmen have learned to restore its performance after disassembly.

Challenges of selling privately

Prices for Kia Optima of the first years of release begin with the mark of 650 000 rubles. Among the proposals, cars with 2-liter gasoline engines prevail. Kia Optima can be trusted, but not unlimited.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
