Value my car1Why buyers choose this model
Different styling of the same model is not unusual. However, the Mazda 323 is different. An uninformed person would hardly think that all these versions have much in common. The main difference is in the body. The Mazda 323 F has a very dynamic style. The 323 C three-door hatchback looks original, but it is more controversial. It is shorter and taller than the sporty F. 323 S, a conventional sedan with a less exciting conservative look. In the United States, it was called Protege. In 1997, the second 3-door hatchback appeared in the model range - 323P. It got a more familiar look, and its production continued for another two years after the completion of sales of the models C, F and S. The most interesting is the F version, the body shape of which resembles a 4-door coupe. Despite the heavily lowered roof and several original solutions, for example, door windows devoid of frames, the car is quite practical. It allows you to travel comfortably with four people, taking with you 345 liters of luggage. The interior is a bit archaic, but even with large runs, there are no numerous sources of annoying creak. The 323C Mazda has much less space at the back, and the 250-litre trunk makes it clear that this car is for a small family. In addition, the glass of the rear door complicates the control of the environment. As in the F version, the back view is severely limited. The later 323 R hatchback has a completely different character and a very spacious interior. The interior of the 323 S sedan looks different. By class standards, it provides plenty of room for rear passengers' legs. The family character of this car is emphasized by the 425-liter trunk.
2What buyers check
Corrosion of old models
Rust often attacks the body of the oldest copies - at the edges of the rear wings, doors and back ends of the sills. Corrosion can also be found in the trunk floor. The cups of shock absorbers on both axles should be carefully examined. But that's not the rule. Well-groomed Mazdas can have a "healthy" metal.
In 323F, the condition of the glass seals is equally important. They are made of soft rubber that wears out quite quickly. To check the tightness should go to the car wash. The cost of the original seal for one door is 11 000 rubles.
Walking
On the road, all versions behave correctly and safely. It is especially nice to drive the 323 F Mazda. However, the work of its suspension will not like lovers of comfort.
The stabilizer racks and bushes were very unstable, especially the rear ones. If they are not replaced in time, then this can lead to rapid wear of other elements of the suspension. However, the suspension strength is higher than that of European competitors. But there is one thing – the cost of the components of the running. They're not too cheap.
The rear axle is equipped with an independent three-section suspension known as the Twin Trapezoidal Link (TTL). The market offers only a rounded rear transverse lever. Fortunately, in practice, it does not have to be changed.
Brake pads do not last long. They usually require replacement every 30,000 km. With very large runs, problems arise with the calipers guides.
Due to the large angle of rotation of the wheels, the anthers of the external SRUS wear out relatively quickly.
Engines
All gasoline engines are represented by 16-valve units with a geared belt of the timing. Sometimes they are tormented by oil leaks from under the valve lid. Control requires the cooling system – even small losses of fluid lead to overheating. The smallest 1. 3 l/75 hp was present in all bodies except the F version. It's reliable and economical. The larger and more dynamic 1.5 l/88 hp of the Z5 series makes a less pleasant impression. Sometimes the replacement of piston rings and valve ossicles was necessary after only 150,000 km. Anxiety symptoms are increased oil consumption and blue smoke from the exhaust pipe. Similar problems have bypassed the 1.8 l/114 hp BP series, which is more common in the Mazda 323F. This is a great source of traction for more demanding drivers. When driving dynamically, it burns not much more than a 1.5-liter atmospheric, but provides higher performance. The BP series engine is incredibly easy to gain traction, as if it does not have a flywheel. Of course, he has it, and the solution lies in the use of very short, and therefore light pistons. They have very little inertia, so the motor is easy to lift. However, short pistons contribute to an increase in oil consumption. Increased consumption was observed even with small runs and in the future only increased. At a careless owner, one day, 1.5 could have used up all the oil. If this did not happen, and the engine is still alive, then most likely it already requires replacing the crankshaft liners.
Typical problems and malfunctions
- parking brakes are not working, sometimes you just need to adjust them.
- failure of the electric drive of the retractable antenna - the plastic gears of the mechanism wear out.
- Breaking keys are incredibly long and thin.
- Poor sealing of the glass frameless doors. The stele can be adjusted.
- Very low efficiency of the headlights. In most cases, the reflective surface can be disassembled and cleaned.
- short-lived front stabilizer racks.
- high oil consumption engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters.
