Value my car1Why buyers choose this model
Mazda 5 replaced the Premacy model in the brand range. In some non-European markets, the compact van continued to be sold under its former name. In 2010, Mazda 5 went through a significant modernization, changing the designation from CR to CW. The rigidity of the body was increased and minor changes were made to the chassis design. However, despite being positioned as a new generation, the car has actually remained the same. In 2015, the production of the “five” was discontinued, and no successor is provided. The role of the family compact was assigned to the Mazda CX-5 and CX-3 crossovers.
2What buyers check
Design features
The Mazda 5 is a perfect family car. The second pair of doors is sliding, and in the top versions of the GTA it even has an electric drive. As a result, landing on the second row became much more convenient. Another valuable asset is the 7-seat salon. But in this configuration, you can take only 112 liters of luggage on board. If necessary, the third row of seats folds into the trunk floor, which increases the capacity of the cargo compartment to a decent 538 liters. In addition, the cabin allows you to transform the seats at your discretion. With a full set of passengers, the trunk volume is just over 100 liters, and in the 5-seat version, about 540 liters. The Five was designed at a time when Ford was the main shareholder of Mazda. Although the car was built exclusively in Japan and Taiwan, most European engineers took part in its creation. The Mazda 5 was built using the global Ford C1 platform developed in Germany, on the basis of which such cars as the Ford Kuga, the second generation Ford Focus and the Volvo S40 were created. Despite the family ties with Focus, you should not worry about a cramped cabin. The wheelbase of the minivan is longer by almost 11 cm and is 2750 mm. This allowed for sufficient space for passengers. Even five people will not find a long trip tedious. However, the quality of finishing materials is not the best (hard plastic is susceptible to scratches). But in general, the interior is quite steadfastly endures the test of time. Drivers often complain about ergonomics.
Petrol engines
From the very beginning of production, the Mazda 5 was equipped with three L-series gasoline units - 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3 liters. These engines first debuted in 2002 alongside the first-generation Mazda 6. The first year of the five petrol engines met Euro-3 emission standards. All of them have flaps that create a “vortex effect”. At the same time, the 2- and 2.3-liter are equipped with the VIS (Variable Induction System) system - changes in the length of the two-stage intake manifold. In addition, the 2.3-liter unit has a system of changing the phases of gas distribution. Since 2006, gasoline engines have been in compliance with Euro 4 emissions standards. Only a 2-liter engine for this was equipped with an electric throttle drive, and the intake camshaft - with a system of changing the phases of gas distribution S-VT. the 1.8-liter engine electromechanical throttle received only in 2010. The L-series engines are very reliable and durable. The main weakness is the increased consumption of oil, which requires regular monitoring of its level. It comes very rarely to major repairs (70-130 thousand rubles). Cars with gas equipment already installed should be avoided. In the presence of HBO every 50,000 km, it is necessary to adjust the gap of the valves, otherwise tanning is inevitable. The supports of the power unit are usually surrendered to 150-200 thousand km. The most expensive is the right one (from 3000 to 12 000 rubles). If possible, it is possible to update the valve cover gasket (500-800 rubles) and the thermostat (from 500 rubles for an analogue). After 200-250 thousand km there are stories with stretching of the chain of the drive of the valve timing (about 17 000 rubles per set).
Diesel engines
Among the ads you can encounter offers for the sale of diesel Mazda 5. All of them are equipped with a 2-liter block, but of varying degrees of forcing: 110 and 143 hp. The powertrain was developed by Mazda and represents the next stage in the development of the RF Turbo series engines. Unlike gasoline engines, which use a chain-type valve timing drive, a gear belt is used here. Its first replacement is envisaged after 120,000km or six years. The subsequent replacement is made after 90,000 km, but already with the pump - from 19 000 to 43 000 rubles per set. Perhaps the biggest drawback of the diesel unit is the particulate filter. Its regeneration occurs due to the injection of additional diesel fuel during the exhaust stroke, under certain conditions. The filter is most likely clogged in those who often travel short distances. After several unsuccessful attempts to burn the filter, the diesel goes into emergency mode. In this case, the regeneration process will have to be started forcibly using diagnostic equipment at the service station. To purchase a new particulate filter will need at least 60 000 rubles. With the filter of solid particles associated with an unusual symbol on the oil probe. In addition to the risks that determine the minimum and maximum, you can find the so-called “X” level. Since during the regeneration of the filter, an additional portion of diesel fuel is injected, then the “solar” is inevitably ingested in the oil. Consequently, the lubrication level increases.
Transmission
Diesel versions were aggregated exclusively manual transmission (6-speed since 2008). Gasoline versions were paired with 5-speed mechanics.
The clutch of the ICS usually serves more than 200-250 thousand km. The set will cost 26-35 thousand rubles, and for the work on replacement will ask about 5000 rubles.
The machine was installed only in pair with gasoline engines: 5-speed - with 2.0, and 4-speed - with 2.3.
The automatic is pretty reliable. Cases of repair are isolated and occur after 200-250 thousand km only among cars with a gasoline engine of 2.3 liters.
But failures in the operation of the box and the withdrawal of the machine in emergency mode are observed more often (usually after 150-250 thousand km). The reason is the failure of the ECU automatic transmission. Fortunately, the block is repairable. The new ECU is available for 50-80 thousand rubles, and used - you can find for 10 000 rubles.
Walking
Another advantage of the Mazda 5 is its excellent handling. The Japanese MPV responds very obediently to the driver's commands. Only the Ford C-Max can match it in agility, which is not surprising – they are built on the same platform Ford C1. It is worth noting that diesel versions behave somewhat differently, since instead of electric power steering, a power booster is used.
The suspension of the "five" is not rigid and provides comfortable overcoming uneven roads. But in order for the compact van to maintain incredible submission, regular monitoring and adjustment of the angles of installation of the wheels are necessary.
Silent blocks of the front levers can withstand 100-150 thousand km. A similar resource for a ball support. The cost of the lever is 6-13 thousand rubles.
Silent blocks of rear suspension reach 150-200 thousand km.
Shock absorbers sometimes gave up without serving 100,000 km. The front depreciation rack is available for 7-11 thousand rubles, and the rear - for 4-12 thousand rubles.
Stage bearings are brought to change after 150-200 thousand km of run. The backs usually go a little longer. Front change separately from the hub (4-6 thousand rubles plus 1500-2000 rubles for work), and the rear - in the collection with the hub (6-13 thousand rubles).
By this time, the external SRUS can crunch (7000 rubles for an analogue). And after 200-300 thousand km no-no and will make itself felt internal SRUS (14 000 rubles in the collection with a semi-axle).
With age, one of the rear springs often breaks (2-7 thousand rubles).
Other problems and malfunctions
The fact that the Mazda cars of the new millennium rust, probably everyone knows. At least eight out of ten Mazda 6 first years of production can be found traces of corrosion on the rear fenders. If there is nothing, then most likely the bugs have already been eliminated. To see this, just look under the skirt. Finding a healthy six is very difficult.
Interestingly, this unpleasant trend started much earlier. The latest generation 323 (BJ) upgraded cars are already rusting more intensely than their predecessors, according to experts. The same goes for the 626 (GF) and MX-5 (NB).
Brown plague affects all Mazda, except for the "two". However, in the case of the Mazda 5, everything is not as critical as the above-mentioned “six”. Corrosion of the rear wings is less common, but rusty chassis elements are common. However, if the corrosion of the guide doors and levers is not so terrible, then red surfaces in the places of attachment of the chassis components and the bottom are alarming. To keep the compact van in good condition for a long time, you will have to carry out anticorrosion treatment from time to time. And the sooner you do that, the better.
Small rust spots on wheel arches are not terrible, but you should not leave them without attention. In addition, rust can be found on the thresholds and at the bottom of the doors.
Corrosion does not spare the exhaust system. The middle and back parts with a muffler and resonator can be purchased for 13,000 rubles.
Failure of the air conditioning system is usually caused by a malfunction of the electromagnetic clutch of the compressor. The compressor itself fails less often.

4Challenges of selling privately
The Mazda 5 petrol engines, compared to diesel engines, are simpler in design, more reliable and generally more durable. Diesel engines with age expose much more weaknesses. Compact van boasts a roomy and versatile interior, as well as sliding rear doors, significantly facilitating access to the cabin. Disappointment can be caused by unexpected corrosion.
