Why buyers choose this model

The second generation MPV debuted in mid-1999 and remained in the manufacturer’s range until 2006. The car was the answer to European minivans like the Volkswagen Sharan. The MPV was created from scratch on a new platform specially created for the Japanese minivan. Like European rivals, the car received a front wheel drive. To facilitate access to the second and third row of seats, the Japanese used sliding side doors on both sides of the body. The MPV is successfully performing the role of a family car. The wheelbase is almost the same as the Mercedes E-Klasse and is 2.84 meters. The length of the body, depending on the year of release, varies slightly within 4.75 and 4.80 meters. In Europe, Mazda MPV was offered in several versions, differing in the configuration of the cabin: five, six or seven-seater. In the latest version, two seats can be removed from the trunk if necessary, but it will take a little strength and dexterity.

What buyers check

Engines

If you are not prioritizing fuel consumption, but reliability and quiet operation of the engine, then you should pay attention to cars with gasoline engines. Operation of gasoline modifications Mazda MPV is reduced to periodic replacement of consumables. The basic 2-liter engine with 120 hp for an 1800-kilogram minivan is weak. But it is very reliable and has a relatively low fuel consumption - less than 10 l / 100 km. It is worth noting that gasoline engines very well tolerate the installation of the system for operation on gas. However, you will have to sacrifice the functionality of the trunk, where you will have to install a gas cylinder. Some, hoping to get low operating costs, buy a Mazda MPV with a diesel engine. Unfortunately, this often ends in failure, as CiTD diesel engines require skilled maintenance and do not tolerate savings on fuel or consumables. The manufacturer recommends replacing the belt of the timing belt every 120 thousand km. And every second replacement must be simultaneously replaced and the pump liquid cooling – pump. Mazda diesel engines in their design do not differ significantly from European diesel engines with the Common Rail system, but suffer from several chronic diseases. The source of many problems is the loss of tightness of the intake system and the appearance of oil in the intercooler, which indicates the need to replace the turbocharger.

Other problems and malfunctions

When inspecting the Mazda MPV, special attention should be paid to the rear wheel arches, sills, hood and trunk lid. Long-term operation on “salt” roads and not the best protection against corrosion often leads to the appearance of rust in these places. After the purchase, you should not spare a couple of hundred dollars for professional anti-corrosion treatment, including brake lines. Before processing, it is necessary to remove plastic underwings, under which moisture accumulates, facilitating the destructive task of rust.

Small intrusive faults of electrical equipment, characteristic of European cars, are absent in principle. The original Japanese origin affects: the MPV was going exclusively to its homeland - in the Land of the Rising Sun. However, there are unforeseen problems with the heating and air conditioning system. Metal parts rust over time, which leads to leaks.

Challenges of selling privately

  • Other problems and malfunctions: Long-term operation on salty roads and poor corrosion protection often leads to rust in these places.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
