What buyers check

Model history

The history of the Mitsubishi Outlander began in 2001. The Japanese market has released the model Airtrek, created on the basis of Lancer. In 2003, a slightly upgraded SUV debuted in the European market under the name Outlander. A year later, a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a capacity of 201 hp appeared in the engine line. The Japanese crossover was not in great demand in Europe. In 2007, he gave way to the second generation Outlander. The car was produced in Japan at the Okazaki and Kurashiki factories, as well as in the Philippines - in Kainta.

Interior and exterior

The Japanese crossover can not boast of a spacious cabin and a spacious trunk. The interior is a sample of simplicity and ergonomics. Not very pleasant in appearance and to the touch, interior finishing materials begin to creak over time. But they're resistant to wear. Factory audio system is prone to losing tuned radio waves. Outlanders from overseas (for the US) are slightly different and are freely recognized by different turn indicators and a slightly different center console.

The interior is Spartan. This car is not for those who like buttons. But why is there such a big steering wheel?

Engines

The engine palette is represented only by gasoline engines:

The weakest 2-liter atmospheric provides quite decent dynamics (0-100 km / h in 10.7 seconds), but only in front-wheel drive modification. The two-axle version is heavier, and the drive itself creates additional resistance. Therefore, the dynamics of the all-wheel drive SUV falls to 11.4 seconds. It seems like a small difference, but when overtaking noticeable. The consumption is 10-11 l / 100 km.

In the list of atmospheric engines there is also a 2.4-liter unit. The average consumption with such an engine is about 12-13 l / 100 km. Sprinting to a hundred takes 9.9 seconds.

The best offer is a 2-liter turbo engine. It consumes about the same amount of fuel as a 2.4-liter engine. But it also provides a much higher dynamic.

Reliability? Mitsubishi Outlander engines easily overcome the 500,000 km milestone without serious malfunctions. The only disadvantage is the 2-liter atmospheric – it consumes too much oil. Therefore, constant monitoring of its level is mandatory.

Technical features

Mitsubishi Outlander is front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. In a pair of engines were installed: 5-speed mechanics, 4 and 5-speed automatic transmission INVECS-II. The front and rear axles have a system of independent levers, which significantly limits the off-road capabilities of the car. But in a critical situation will help 20-centimeter ground clearance.

As for safety, the first-generation Outlander did not take part in the crash tests of Euro NCAP.

Typical malfunctions

The Mitsubishi Outlander's weak side is clutch. The vulnerability concerns cars with a manual transmission and all-wheel drive. If you do not handle the clutch very softly, then prepare for replacement. There is also a grinding gear when switching from 1st to 2nd.

Not distinguished by the strength and original brake discs. A large mass of the car quite quickly leads to overheating of the discs, their deformation and beating not only during braking, but also during the movement.

In the suspension, you regularly have to change consumables - bushings and stabilizer racks. And the cost is quite high. Fortunately, the rest of the suspension is almost eternal. But only on condition that the previous owner of the car did not go to the fields too often. Sometimes replacements may require a suspension sleeve or differential bracket. These parts aren't cheap either.

The trunk has a high floor due to the all-wheel drive system.

Painting of medium quality and too soft for a car with an off-road character – easily scratches. Before buying, be sure to inspect the body for corrosion. Usually it appears on the thresholds, hood and in the area of plastic body kits. The chassis and exhaust system must also be checked.

Among minor malfunctions, it is worth noting too soft glazing of the headlights (becomes cloudy), failure of the headlight washer and problems with the fan of the cooling system (a recall campaign was carried out).

Challenges of selling privately

While the Mitsubishi Outlander doesn’t stand out from the crowd and is far from extravagant, it can still be a pleasant surprise. First of all, a reliable all-wheel drive system that will help to pull the car out of almost any scrap. The list of advantages: very good dynamic characteristics of the turbo version, exemplary behavior (on hard-surfaced roads), high reliability and rich equipment.

The disadvantages include high fuel consumption, too rigid suspension, expensive spare parts, a small trunk (402 liters), not sufficiently functional and cramped interior, and not too refined conservative style.

  • The history of the Mitsubishi Outlander began in 2001.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
