What buyers check

Review

Nissan X-Trail is a compact SUV, the production of which began in 2001. The 1st generation X-Trail was given the factory designation T30. It is built on the platform of the Nissan FF-S, which is the basis of the popular Nissan Primera and Almera N16. In 2004, the X-Trail underwent a slight restyling. The crossover was produced until 2007, when it was replaced by the second generation, the T-31.

The SUV won the hearts of lovers of country holidays and became very popular. Those who want to buy a universal SUV will easily find many ads for its sale. A large and roomy crossover with outstanding off-road abilities for a reasonable price is a good offer. But is everything that smooth? Let's follow the trail!

Engines

The Nissan X-Trail engine lineup included two petrol and one diesel engine. The first were presented with 2-liter (QR20DE, 140 hp) and 2.5-liter (QR25DE, 165 hp). Nissan QR engines are suffering from rapid coking of the rings due to the unsuccessful oil separation system in the valve cover. In 2004, the design of the pistons was refined, and the number of problems decreased slightly. The engines of this series begin to take oil when running a little more than 100,000 km, and the catastrophic situation becomes at the level of 150 - 190 thousand km with an oil consumption of 2-3 liters per 10,000 km. Most often, this problem overtakes engines with a working volume of 2.5 liters. Replacement of rings with oil caps will cost 30,000 rubles. I would like to note that gasoline engines have too many overhauls caused by high oil consumption, and even up to the mark of 200,000 km.

With a run of more than 140 - 160 thousand km, oil may appear in candle wells due to "suffocated" glands. They can be replaced both in the collection with the valve lid (5-6 thousand rubles), as many car service providers advise, and separately - only the oil seals themselves, which will be much cheaper. The chain can stretch after 140 – 160 thousand km, which will cause engine interruptions, tripping and loss of traction. By this time, the chain tensioner queue may come. After 160 – 180 thousand km, most likely, will have to clean the throttle. Its pollution makes it difficult to start a cold engine and is one of the reasons for unstable work. When running more than 100 thousand km, it will be useful to replace the fuel filter in the tank.

Transmission

The manual transmission is very reliable. She's not a problem. The clutch survives to 140 – 180 thousand km, in harsh conditions, its service life will be limited to a mileage of 80 – 100 thousand km. To replace it, you will have to pay 8-12 thousand rubles for a new set and 6-8 thousand rubles for work. The approaching death of the clutch is almost impossible to diagnose - it works to the last and then immediately dies.

The automatic transmission, although it is considered reliable, is not without problems. Not too expensive - with a run of more than 180 - 200 thousand km - burning contacts or failure of the relay, feeding power to the electromagnet, removing the lock selector gear selection. After 200 thousand km there were cases of breakdown of the planetary gearbox and a break of the schlitsov. One possible reason is the failure of the oil pressure sensor in the box and, as a result, the wrong control signals. Recommendations for preventing such incidents are to replace the sensor every 80,000 km. Repair of the already bent box will be in 30 – 40 thousand rubles.

The transfer box often begins to leak after 150 - 170 thousand km.

Walking

You should also pay attention to the suspension. The sleeves of the stabilizer nurse 40 – 60 thousand km, about the same number of racks of the stabilizer. When running more than 150 – 180 thousand km, the most likely fit queue of depreciation racks, levers silent blocks and hub bearings.

The steering tips run 60 – 80 thousand km.

Front brake discs survive up to 100 – 120 thousand km (2 – 3 thousand rubles), front brake pads – up to 50 – 60 thousand km, and rear pads – up to 80 – 90 thousand km.

Body and salon

The front wings of the Nissan X-Trail T30 are made of plastic. The undoubted plus is the ease of construction and the impossibility of corrosion. Their disadvantage is the high price. As always, compassionate Chinese people with their cheaper counterparts help out. The weak spot on the back of the Japanese SUV is the trunk door. Foci of corrosion occur along the edge of the chrome lining above the license plate. It is treated with gluing under the lining with 2-sided tape. The cabin noise insulation is weak. Often the back seat rattles, and the panels creak. Many people have a driver’s seat. Often the rear seats refuse to fold due to a flying pin of the lock inside the back. When running more than 60 - 80 thousand km, it is often necessary to repair the motor of the fan of the cabin heater. When the stove is turned on, there is noise. The reason is short-lived slip bearings, instead of which it would be appropriate to install conventional rolling bearings. The official dealer is ready to replace the heater in the collection for 5-6 thousand rubles, plus 10 thousand rubles. Independent disassembly of the stove and replacement of the bearing will cost many times cheaper. Over time, due to the wedging of the bearing of the electric motor, the control resistor may burn out, and the stove will cease to respond to a change in the position of the regulator. A simple replacement of the resistor in this case is not enough, as soon everything will repeat. There is only one way out – replacing the bearing of the heater motor. The engine can withstand 3-4 successful repairs, then you will have to replace the heater in the assembly. Electricity sometimes shows its character.

  • Problems with starting a cold engine and engine failures of 2.5 liters with a mileage of more than 130 - 150 thousand.
  • km are most often caused by a failed sensor position of the crankshaft (1.5 – 2 thousand rubles).
  • This engine, although it does not require major repairs, but has weaknesses.
  • The first problems with diesel engines arise, as a rule, after 140 – 160 thousand km.

Challenges of selling privately

Fuel consumption for a 2-liter engine with manual transmission will be about 13-14 liters in the city and 15-17 liters with a machine gun, on the highway will require 9-10 liters. The 2.5 liter motor with manual transmission in the city will ask for 13-16 liters, and with a 14-17 liter automatic machine, on the track the consumption will be 10 - 11 liters. Diesel is a little more economical - 10 - 13 liters in the city and 7-9 liters on the highway.

  • Nissan X-Trail is a compact SUV, the production of which began in 2001.
  • Engines: In 2004, the design of the pistons was refined and the number of problems decreased slightly.

  • Body and interior: Undoubted plus - ease of construction and the impossibility of corrosion. Their disadvantage is the high price.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
