2What buyers check
Design features
The basis of Opel Mocca was the Gamma II platform (development of the Korean division of GM) - the same as the Corsa E series. The suspension and steering combine components from Corsa, Astra and Meriva.
At first glance, the Opel Mokka seems a little swelled. But in reality, its proportions are not much different from other members of the segment. The Skoda Yeti is taller and wider, while the Qashqai and ASX are longer.
The declared clearance is 190 mm, but under protection the ground clearance does not exceed 160 mm. Therefore, it is better not to even think about off-road exploits. This is once again reminiscent of a low-hanging front bumper.
In 2012, the crossover has successfully passed safety tests - the maximum 5 stars according to EuroNCAP. At the same time, its American version, Buick Encore, failed the test due to an unsatisfactory result in a small overlap impact. Encor after reworking rehabilitated in 2015 and received a rating of “good”.
Mocha for the Russian market was going to Kaliningrad "Autotor". The restyled versions never went on sale. In 2015, Opel decided to withdraw from the market. The last copies were sold in 2015.
Salon
The main ideas of interior architecture are borrowed from Meriva. However, the well-known concept has evolved a little. For example, above the center console appeared navigation display under a large visor, and in front of the passenger – two closing boxes.
Mocca doesn't have a large central tunnel or an electronic parking brake. In addition, the armrest is simplified - it serves only the driver and is attached directly to his seat.
The cabin width is 142 cm, as in the technically connected Chevrolet Aveo. The interior will accommodate four adults and 356 liters of luggage.
Engines
European cars got a gasoline atmospheric 1. 6 Ecotec and a turbocharged 1. 4 Turbo. At the same time, at the disposal of motorists of the old world was a turbodiesel 1. 7 CDTI. It was created by Isuzu back in the mid-90s. Mokka got its most modern version with 130 hp returns. In mid-2015, the 1.7 CDTI was replaced by a representative of the Ecotec family of 1.6 liters diesel engines, developing 136 hp. Unlike the cast iron 1.7, the new turbodiesel had an aluminum head and a cylinder block. Russian cars were equipped with gasoline units - atmospheric 1. 8 (140 hp) and turbocharged 1. 4T (140 hp), as well as diesel 1. 7 CDTI (130 hp). The latter received the least distribution. Among the first buyers, the most popular were Mocha with a 1.8-liter gasoline atmospheric tank (A18XER). In the past, the 1.8 with the XER prefix was often pestered with noisy gears of the gas distribution phases. The phase variator (8000 rubles) and its electromagnetic valves (4,000 rubles) were upgraded in 2010. So, problems with phasoregulators began to occur less often, but not completely eliminated. Usually the disease occurs after 100,000 km. But with the heat exchanger (from 6000 rubles) and the thermostat (from 2300 rubles), the situation has not changed. They can flow through 80-140 thousand km. The flaw is also characteristic of the 1.4T turbo engine. Another common problem is cracking of the expansion tank (from 1700 rubles). Can bring and the resistor of the fan cooling system - the fan begins to work at maximum speed. After 60,000 to 100,000.
Transmission
The engines were combined with 5 (1.8) and 6-speed mechanics (1.4T), as well as with a 6-band hydromechanical automatic.
Gasoline versions were offered, both with front and all-wheel drive. Moreover, the bundle 1.8 with the automatic could only be four-wheel drive, and the combination of 1.8 with mechanics - only monodrive.
The turbo version with all-wheel drive was exclusively "on the handle". Diesel modifications are devoid of all-wheel drive and combined only with an automatic transmission. In Russia, diesel with manual transmission was not sold.
Transmissions
A manual transmission usually does not fail. But the factory clutch disc could wear out after 60-100 thousand km. The full set costs at least 8000 rubles. Another 5,000 rubles have to be paid for work.
In a 5-speed manual transmission, the tip of the cable of the gear selection mechanism can fly off, then the lever has a free ride. The new tip is assembled with cables, the cost of which is about 10 000 rubles. Owners have to resort to improvised means - insulating tape or plastic screeds.
Automatic transmission 6T40 development of GM on experience in other models of the concern has shown itself not from the best side. Usually, the slack was given by a wavy spring, solenoids or a hydrotransformer. Frequent oil renewal (every 40,000 km) significantly extended the life of the box.
However, contrary to expectations, the machine, as a rule, does not force you to visit the service for repairs. Although complaints of rough switching are common (typical for 1.4 T). In some cases, adaptation helps. There are examples with a run of more than 200-250 thousand km without automatic transmission repair.
Adaptive 4x4
The all-wheel drive system uses a rear differential and a multi-disc coupling Borg Warner with electromagnetic control. The system allows you to change the ratio of traction between the axles in the range from 100:0 in favor of the front wheels to 50:50. The advantage of the system is a relatively low weight of 65 kg.
The presence of all-wheel drive adds a portion of potential problems. For example, the right front drive shaft (900 rubles) can leak. And after 80-120 thousand km wear out the suspension bearing of the driveshaft. The original is assembled with a cardan and costs 42 000 rubles. In a specialized service, the node will be restored for 13,000 rubles.
From time to time, the Borg Warner coupling itself fails - the all-wheel drive system is turned off. In this regard, a number of machines fell under a recall campaign to update the clutch control program. Failure can be caused by moisture entering the contact connector - disassembly and drying are necessary.
Some even had to repair the clutch because of snacking and twitching during movement. In specialized services, the disease is familiar and expelled by replacing galls and bearings.
Walking
The suspension is set up quite tightly, because the defects of the coating are transmitted in sufficient detail. On the road, you can't call the behavior exemplary. As speed increases, the steering wheel becomes empty and the reactions become less accurate.
On the front axle are installed Macpherson struts, and on the rear - U-shaped twisting beam.
Suspension may require attention on a segment of 60-100 thousand km. - wear out the Silent blocks of the front levers (usually rear) and shock absorbers (most often front). The new front lever in the original is available for 4600 rubles, and analogues start from the mark of 2000 rubles. The original front shock absorber will get for 11 500 rubles, and the rear - for 5000 rubles. Analogues are more affordable – 4000 and 3400 rubles, respectively.
Steering control
In SUV with atmospheric 1.8 installed hydraulic amplifier, and in other versions - electric power steering.
Owners of cars with GUR sometimes noticed the noise coming from the pump. Most often, the problem was solved by replenishing the fluid in the system. The cause of the hum could be a torn net in the tank. The tank had to be changed (about 5000 rubles). In some cases, a bulkhead or replacement of the pump itself was required (from 7000 rubles per analog).
In severe frosts (below 20 degrees) burst factory hoses high pressure GUR (3000 rubles). In the meantime, the fittings could break away from the GUR tank.
Other problems and malfunctions
It is too early to talk about corrosion of the body. But chrome elements under the influence of an aggressive external environment lose their former gloss.
In Mokka with adaptive light AFL often falls off the decorative edging ring of the lens body. The system itself may become sick – the sensor fails, or the wiring inside the block headlights is damaged.
After 3-5 years, the mechanism of drive wipers often sours - the leashes work slower, jerks or simply jams. The new trapezoid is expensive - from 17 to 26 thousand rubles. Often the mechanism can be revived after disassembly and lubrication.
From time to time there are problems with door locks (7000 rubles).
Individual owners had to change the air conditioner compressor (from 22 000 rubles). In some services, it is ready to be resuscitated for 12,000 rubles.

4Challenges of selling privately
Opel Mokka, being a crossover, is not much different from urban hatchbacks, especially in front-wheel drive performance. As for the possible problems, as can be seen from the review, they are all solvable, and, as a rule, do not require astronomical investment. However, such a repair can be called cheap with difficulty.
