What buyers check

Review

In the 1990s, open-air vehicles virtually disappeared from the list of offerings. An old convertible can be bought for two salaries (for example, the Rover 216i Cabrio or the Ford Escort Cabrio). The only question is whether you will get everything you expect from him. Yes, you can ride in the sun, but that’s probably all. The rest of the time you will struggle with age, corrosion, mechanical problems. In addition, leaves much to be desired stiffness of the body and, as a result, the impression of driving, not to mention passive safety. A little better in this regard, the Peugeot 206 CC. It is a safe and secure place. The problem is that it is already aging, and although it is not visible at first glance, it is concerned about corrosion. However, electrohydraulic drive of the roof causes problems. The successful 206 SS sold over 360,000 copies worldwide. Its successor was built on the new technical base of Peugeot 207. The 206 offered a much tougher body compared to the previously released convertibles. How much the rigidity of the body of the 207th has changed - Peugeot does not specify. The 207 SS convertible came about a year after the hatchback debuted. It is lower compared to the hatchback by a significant 75 mm. At the same time, the convertible added 150 kg in weight – partly due to the retractable metal roof and additional body reinforcement. So how is the Peugeot 207 SS different from a regular hatchback? First of all, the power cell of the body, which was reinforced to compensate for the lack of a roof. Differently decorated and body thresholds, which is noticeable when landing.

Walking

The previous 206 SS in the part of the running was a traditional Peugeot. On the front axle used exclusively racks pseudo McPherson with a lower lever in the shape of a boomerang, which is usually typical for cars with a sporty character. The transverse torsion was attracted behind. The solution is successful, albeit controversial, as each owner had to solve the problem with longitudinal levers over time. The new 207 CC on the front axle uses a conventional transverse lever. The ball can be purchased separately, even the original. The service life is medium. The lever itself is attached to a subframe with an auxiliary transverse amplifier. This is the lower part of the anterior deformation zone, which absorbs some of the impact energy in a frontal collision. The front wheel bearings are commendable. They change separately from the hub. Behind is a twisting beam, which is almost eternal. Unlike the front axle, wheel bearings are part of the rear brake discs. The parking brake is connected to the rear brake system and sometimes begins to mope. Scream after a long parking is caused by brake pads. The manufacturer has eliminated the miscalculation with additional protection, preventing dirt from hitting the brakes. Never buy a car that has an ABS/ESP lamp on. Don’t believe the seller that the reason is the speed sensors of the wheels, and that, allegedly, they just need to be cleaned. Of course, this is the first thing to do, but most likely, there will be no positive result. Usually the cause is much more serious.

Engines

Given the mission of the coupe-convertible, you will not find the basic engines from the hatchback of the same name. From the very beginning to the end of production of the 207 SS, only three engines with a volume of 1.6 liters were relied on - two gasoline and one diesel. Gasoline engines are representatives of the EP series, developed in conjunction with BMW. Those who are fond of cars, he knows that in terms of reliability, these units are much inferior to the older TU, offered since the 1980s. By and large, none of the engines used, whether 1.6 VTi, 1.6 THP or 1.6 HDi, can be labeled as trouble-free. The 1.6 HDi turbodiesel is not very similar to the 207 CC. And it's also often slapped. Part of the fault is the oil pallet of irregular shape, combined with fuel leaks through the O-rings of Bosch fuel injectors. But if you buy a convertible with a live 1.6 HDi, remove the pallet to clean the suction basket of the oil pump, and dismantle the nozzles to replace the sealing washers, then, theoretically, there will be no serious problems with the engine. These actions should be repeated from time to time. Turbodiesels have not had such problems since the summer of 2009 (Euro 5), as they use a different Common Rail. Unfortunately, the oil pallet has not undergone any changes. It should be noted that until 2009, the 1.6 HDi had a 16-valve block head and the DV6 marking. It was later given an 8-valve head and the designation DV6C. All turbo diesels were equipped with a particulate filter. The most pleasant to drive turbo engine 1. 6 THP. Until the summer of 2009, it developed 150 hp, and after that - 156 hp (Euro 5).

Electrohydraulic roof

When purchasing the Peugeot 207 CC, many are concerned about the functionality and durability of the electro-hydraulic roof. This is the same solution as in 206 SS. This time, the manufacturer designed the roof on its own. Unlike the 206, there is no need to manually unlock the roof. It is enough to press and hold the corresponding button. The transformation from a convertible into a coupe takes 25 seconds and is possible even in motion at speeds up to 10 km / h. If during the folding / unfolding of the roof freezes, Peugeot advises to stop the car, use the parking brake, drown out and start the engine again. The roof can be controlled with the engine switched off. However, this is the discharge of the battery. The core of the entire roof management system is a hydraulic pump with a control unit. The system also includes six hydraulic cylinders and 11 terminal microswitches. When the microswitch is triggered, the roof receives a command to start the next stage of transformation. If one of the end sensors fails, the roof will freeze and will not move to the next stage. In practice, the functionality of the corresponding micro-switch can be restored after cleaning it. To maintain the efficiency of the control system, it is recommended to completely fold and decompose the roof at least once a month. Maintenance of the roof mechanism is limited to checking the condition of the ZH-M hydraulic fluid supplied by Aral-Vitamol. The level of the buffer tank should be between the risks. Peugeot offers most of the roof details.

Model history

2007 – The Peugeot 207 CC convertible is presented. All engines were equipped with 5-speed mechanics by default, and the 1.6 VTi could be combined with a 4-speed automatic.

2009 – modernization of the car. The engines are brought to the Euro-5 emission standard. 1.6 HDi received an 8-valve block head with one camshaft and another Common Rail system.

2012 – the successor to the hatchback – Peugeot 208. 207 continued to exist under the designation “207+” with a limited selection of engines and equipment. The 207 SS convertible was offered in unchanged form.

2014 – production of 207+ was discontinued. 207 SS was produced further.

2015 – Production of 207 SS is discontinued without a successor.

  • Of course, this is the first thing to do, but most likely, there will be no positive result. Usually the cause is much more serious.
  • The ABS/ESP control unit or its hydraulic part (pressure sensor in the hydraulic unit) fails.
  • Hydraulics problems only affect versions with ESP, which are not installed on all cars.
  • Whatever the cause of the failure, it is always expensive.
  • In machines manufactured from September 2009 to January 2013, the servo motor of the amplifier may fail.
  • At the same time, the steering wheel becomes heavy, and the malfunction indicator lights up.

Engines

  • 6 HDi cannot be labeled as trouble-free.
  • Part of the fault is the oil pallet of irregular shape, combined with fuel leaks through the O-rings of Bosch fuel injectors. But if you buy a convertible with a live 1.
  • 6 HDi, remove the pallet to clean the suction basket of the oil pump, and dismantle the nozzles to replace the sealing washers, then, theoretically, there will be no serious problems with the engine.

  • It should be noted that until 2009 1.
  • At the same time, power drops, engine outages are observed, and the malfunction indicator lights up.
  • In authorized services, the problem is solved by a special cleaning kit in combination with the manufacturer's recommendation to use gasoline additives.

Electrohydraulic roof

  • Maintenance of the roof mechanism is limited to checking the condition of the ZH-M hydraulic fluid supplied by Aral-Vitamol.
  • Perhaps the most common problem is creaking or knocking a decomposed roof while moving.
  • The second most common problem is roof leakage.
  • To eliminate leaks, Peugeot suggests using a remake.
