Despite the emergence of new technologies, PSA is actively using the modular platform EMP2, which is widely used in older models. EMR2 has found its place in the Citroen C4 and its DS4/DS5 derivatives, as well as in some Peugeot models. For example, the Peugeot 3008, the 5008 minivan and even the RCZ sports coupe. Interestingly, the EMR2 platform debuted on the revolutionary Peugeot 307, i.e. at the beginning of the new millennium! So much innovation has emerged over the years, but the base has remained the same. But there are also advantages to this. PSA cars, unlike their competitors (Ford Focus 2/C-Max 1), are generally non-corrosive. And the level of rigidity of the body meets even the strict modern requirements of passive safety. Peugeot 3008 according to the results of crash tests EuroNCAP earned 5 stars.
2What buyers check
Equipment and interior
Although the 3008 is technically very close to the 308 Peugeot, the interior of the cars is quite different. The first thing that catches the eye is a huge central tunnel between the seats, as in large sports cars or racing GTs. But in the case of GT, it is a technical necessity. Here, traction is transmitted in all versions only to the front wheels, and this design is superfluous.
The hypothesis is confirmed on closer examination. The central tunnel is simply screwed to a completely flat floor. It's pretty obvious on the second row. But the average passenger's feet are free.
The second interesting point is the Head-Up display. The image is projected not on the windshield, but on the auxiliary. Otherwise, replacing the windshield would be prohibitively expensive, which is unacceptable for a car of this class.
The unexpected advantage of the Peugeot 3008 is the cargo and passenger capabilities. The boot floor can be placed on one of three levels, and the back seat folded in a ratio of 3: 2. After that, a completely flat surface is formed.
But that's not all! The back cover of the trunk allows you to use only its upper part, and the lower one reclines, imitating the platform. If you remember, the Citroen C2 and the fifth-generation three-door Honda Civic had exactly the same circuitry. Her job was to make it easier to load heavy objects, which probably helped someone. But, unfortunately, people of small stature will have difficulty loading due to the high lower edge, or with the reach of the far corners of the trunk with the "platform" thrown down.
Technical features
The platform and chassis completely copy the smaller Peugeot 308. On the front axle, the lever in the form of a hockey stick has a screwable ball support located with a finger down. This solution is rarely used in passenger cars. Both the ball lever (600-700 rubles) and both Silent-blocks (400-500 rubles) can be replaced separately. However, dealers for the original lever in the collection ask not a little – about $ 240. And in the online store the node is much cheaper. Peugeot 3008 almost did not touch the common problem of the large 5008 – vibration on the steering wheel when braking at high speeds. But there is another disadvantage of the front axle - a low service life of the front step bearings (2-4 thousand rubles), accompanied by a characteristic hum. Over time, Peugeot began to use a reinforced component. Despite the higher weight, the rear uses the same twisting beam as the 308. However, there are practically no questions to the rear axle, except for the noisy operation of shock absorbers. In addition to the usual suspension, a unique DRC (Dymamic Roll Control) system was used. It could only be used in cars with a 1.6 THP petrol turbo engine or a 2.0 HDi turbo diesel. Its main feature is a damper built into the crossbar of the rear axle and connecting the rear shock absorbers. It works on the mechanical-hydraulic principle. The system is similar to an active stabilizer of transverse stability. When turning, damping on the laden side increases, thereby preventing rolls of the rear of the body.
Petrol engines
The latest generation of EP gasoline engines (in the case of the 3008 1.6 liter) of the PSA concern still causes conflicting reactions. When the engine first came out, it was different. The entire automotive press was delighted and spared no words for praise. The atmospheric version of the VTi, despite strict emission limits, reacts quite quickly to pressing the gas pedal. The modification with turbocharging TNR is accelerating even faster. The development of these engines was greatly helped by BMW. However, in the engines of each manufacturer there are slight differences. In addition, for the PSA Group, the engines are assembled exclusively at the French factory "Francaise de Mecanique". If you need a petrol-powered Peugeot 3008, then opt for an atmospheric VTi. His only problem is the valve timing drive. As a rule, everything is blamed on the stretched chain of the HRM, but more often the cause of troubles in the tensioner. Serious consequences usually do not happen, since when the chain is stretched, the engine control unit records the discrepancy of data from the sensors of the position of the crankshaft and camshaft. The disease is accompanied by a tanning of the engine malfunction indicator, which forces most owners to contact the service. In the early years, some had to deal with the defect after only 20,000 km. Today, things are much better and the remake is available for $200. With the valve timing drive, the oil changes, including the filter. The final cost of the work will be about $ 300. Even more interesting is the turbocharged 1.6 petrol. In addition to the turbocharger, the unit received another head of the block.
Diesel engines
Given the problems of gasoline engines, the buyer 3008 has no choice but to look for a turbodiesel. There were originally two. The smaller, 1. 6 HDi, is a representative of the DV series. Until 2010, it was in compliance with Euro 4 and after Euro 5. There are more differences than it may seem at first glance. First of all, it is another head of the cylinder block. Instead of 16 valves, only 8 remained, and instead of two camshafts, only one. The belt-drive valve timing was retained, as was the replacement interval of 240,000 km. However, many engines are skeptical of the manufacturer's prescriptions and agree that the timing belt is better to change no later than 150-160 thousand km, and better still a little earlier. The new set will cost 5000 rubles, and with the pump its cost increases to 13,000 rubles. 1. 6 HDi is famous for its excellent economy. Unfortunately, it is also prone to accumulating carbon deposits. The fault is the wrong shape of the oil pallet and too long service interval of oil change – up to 30,000 km (in Europe). With the transition to Euro 5, the shape of the crankcase did not change, but the frequency of oil change was reduced to 20,000 km. This measure has managed to get rid of the lack. In Russia, the manufacturer also recommends updating the oil every 20,000 km or 15,000 times when operating in harsh conditions. Mechanics recommend doing this at least once in 8-10 thousand km. Fortunately, the low life of the turbocharger is a thing of the past.
Art for art's sake
The prototype 3008, called the Peugeot Prologue Hybrid 4, is a hybrid version. It has not been widely distributed. As a power plant is a combination of a 2.0 HDi / 163 hp turbodiesel, which drives the front wheels, and an electric motor with a capacity of 37 hp, rotating the rear. If the battery level falls below a certain level, then all-wheel drive becomes unavailable. The limited number of copies sold does not allow to judge reliability and operating costs.
Transmission
None of the transmissions raises any claims. There is no need to complain about the durability of the robotic transmission. The robot clutch wears out after 150,000 km. The cost of a new set of 16 000 rubles. Together with the flywheel, the costs will be significantly higher - about 40,000 rubles for the original.
Other problems and malfunctions
On the positive side, I want to note the good resistance of the body to corrosion. Only a few owners noticed the swelling of paint in the lower part of the interior of the rear doors.
The headlights are almost guaranteed to lose transparency (disturb) after 7-9 years of operation.
Many will be interested in the mysterious pen on the right side of the center console. It is likely that the passenger did not accidentally fall out of the chair in some dashing bend.
3Pre-purchase checklist
Equipment and interior
- But in the case of GT, it is a technical necessity.
- Otherwise, replacing the windshield would be prohibitively expensive, which is unacceptable for a car of this class.
Technical features
- Peugeot 3008 almost did not touch the common problem of the large 5008 – vibration on the steering wheel when braking at high speeds.
- It is a good solution, but only if it works as it should and does not fail.
Petrol engines
- If you need a petrol-powered Peugeot 3008, then opt for an atmospheric VTi. His only problem is the valve timing drive.
- The disease is accompanied by a tanning of the engine malfunction indicator, which forces most owners to contact the service.
- To the above problem with the chain drive of the HRM (15,000 rubles for a set with replacement work) are added other, possibly even more serious.
- PSA mechanics try to prevent problems by cleaning the intake manifold and combustion chamber by spraying a special means inside.
- The second way to avoid problems is to add additives to the fuel every 5,000 km. It's a pretty controversial decision.
- For example, over time, the oil supply tube to the turbine and the oil filter body begin to flow.
- The original pump is quite expensive – 30 000 rubles, but sometimes it can be repaired, which will be much cheaper.
Diesel engines
- Given the problems of gasoline engines, the buyer 3008 has no choice but to look for a turbodiesel. There were originally two. The smaller, 1. 6 HDi, is a representative of the DV series.

- Mechanics recommend doing this at least once in 8-10 thousand km.
- The only thing you can still encounter is small oil leaks and wear of sealing washers under the nozzles (the smell of exhaust gases will appear in the cabin).
- The problems of early versions with the EGR valve have long been irrelevant, and the driver is usually to blame for premature wear of the two-mass flywheel.
Other problems and malfunctions
- On the positive side, I want to note the good resistance of the body to corrosion.
4Challenges of selling privately
The Peugeot 3008 is a very controversial car. The distinctive appearance lacks the elegance of the early models of the brand. And to become a full-fledged crossover – there is not enough version with all-wheel drive, which is replaced by the Grip Control system. It is essentially ABS/ESP with its own “thin” settings. The system's capabilities outside the asphalt road are questionable.
But the car is not without advantages. For example, a versatile trunk and good driving qualities, which are doubly better than the top versions with the DRC system... while it works properly.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
