Captur was Renault’s response to the growing interest in crossovers. Capture was accepted in the market with interest. Undoubtedly, this has a lot to do with his appearance - he is cute and attractive. In the Renault range, it replaced the Modus (and Grand Modus), i.e. typical microvans built on the basis of the Clio - a B-segment car. Captur shared the platform with Clio 4. In 2013, EuroNCAP Captur earned 5 stars in crash tests, demonstrating a good level of passenger protection. With a lateral impact on the pole, a stronger effect on the chest and abdominal cavity was recorded. Not reached the ideal and protection of the cervical spine when hitting the back. At 4122mm, it is a cross between an SUV and a B-segment car. Good cross-country performance is not necessary - all-wheel drive is not provided even as an option. The manufacturer thought that hardly anyone would be against it. And he was right. In conversations of those interested in buying a Captur and comparing it to, say, Suzuki Vitara, you can hear comments about the dynamics and capacity, but no one touches on the topic of the lack of all-wheel drive. Owners got an increased ground clearance (170 mm). And in some cars (including the X-Mod version), you can find Extended Grip Control, which improves wheel grip. It is worth noting that since 2016, in a number of markets (for example, in Russia) Kaptur is offered - a larger car with all-wheel drive. Well-thought-out solutions such as a double floor or a folding sofa (in all Capturs) make it easy to use a not too large cabin. The capacity of the trunk is 377-455 liters (depending on the position of the sliding seat), the maximum is 1235 liters. The Captur is primarily designed for urban use, and is used mainly in this role, most often as a second car in the family. This is important for the buyer on the secondary. Capture rarely has a large mileage, even the oldest specimens it is usually 100-130 thousand km. On the other hand, urban operation is associated with great wear, including suspension.
2What buyers check
Engines
Under the hood of the crossover you can find modern supercharged engines. All Capturs are equipped with ECO function, which reduces power and fuel consumption.
Gasoline
Opens the line of power units three-cylinder turbo engine with a volume of 0.9 liters of the H4Bt series. It has distributed injection. This engine is used by almost half of the Capturs sold in Europe. Is a small 3-cylinder engine worth the recommendation? It is certainly not a dream unit, but it carries surprisingly well in urban conditions. However, you should not rely on it much on country highways, especially where you have to overtake trucks. If the Captur to 100 km / h with 0.9 TCe still accelerates somehow (just over 13 seconds), then after it becomes sluggish. The average fuel consumption is 6.2 l/100 km, which is significantly higher than the promised 4.9 liters, but still acceptable. The disadvantage of 0.9 TCe is leakage of coolant due to the plastic housing of the thermostat (from 4000 rubles for an analog or 8000 rubles for the original). Ignoring the problem can lead to overheating and serious engine repairs. Much more pleasant and dynamic four-cylinder engine 1. 2 TCe series H5ft. However, it has a potential risk of increasing oil consumption due to its characteristic feature - slow warming. The problem is not massive, but it occurs. The illness was facilitated by numerous trips over short distances with an unheated engine. In dealerships, usually resorted to updating the engine control program. If this did not help, the engine was sent for repairs - usually enough to replace the rings. Direct fuel injection raises the question of the economic feasibility of installing gas equipment. The gas distribution mechanism 0.9 and 1.2 TCe is operated by the circuit.
Diesel
In the market of used cars you can still find the engine 1.5 dCi series K9K capacity of 90 and 110 hp. Even in the 90-horsepower version, the 1.5 dCi engine provides better dynamics than the 0.9 TCe. The average consumption of diesel fuel is 5.1 l / 100 km. A little higher than Renault's.
All Renault models of recent years, equipped with 1.5 dCi, are almost fault-free. The only minor problems are leaks from the thermostat and clogging of the DPF particulate filter.
Turbodiesel was affected by the service action. Due to an error in the calibration of the computer, excessive accumulation of sulfur oxides in the catalytic converter could occur, which leads to a disruption of the exhaust gas repurification process and increases nitrogen oxide emissions.
Transmissions
The transmission includes a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission. 5-speed JR5 was paired with 0.9 TCe and 90-horsepower 1.5 dCi. 6-motion TL4 was relied on by the rest of the engines.
A number of machines (except 0.9 TCe) are equipped with a dual-clutch EDC (DC4) gearbox from Getrag (6DCT250). It works well, but can bring malfunctions similar to Volkswagen's DSG boxes - wear and tear of the clutch and dual-mass flywheel. What’s remarkable is that the DC4 is fully electric-powered, so there’s no vulnerable mechatronics here.
Walking
The walker provides a relatively high level of comfort, and the brakes are effective. However, the steering lacks precision.
Triangular transverse arms are installed in the front, and a classic elastic beam is used in the back.
The suspension parts are not too hardy, but because of their interchangeability with other Renault models, they are easily accessible and relatively cheap. For example, the front transverse arms are suitable from the Megane II and Renault Scenic II models.
Ball supports of transverse levers (400-1300 rubles) and stabilizer racks are brought to change after 70-80 thousand km.
A number of cars assembled after November 7, 2014, fell under the action of the service action due to rubbing the front wheel brake hose against the edge of the wheel arch.
Other problems and malfunctions
Nothing has been heard of corrosion of the body yet. The visible rust is a sign of damage and subsequent repairs in the past.
Sometimes there are problems with the paint coating.
Sometimes there are complaints about the creaking details of the cabin.
There are also electrical equipment failures. For example, the clock goes out and the radiator fan vibrates. Fortunately, these are not very common problems and are not difficult to fix – the electrical system is not very complex.

4Challenges of selling privately
The Renault Captur is a good option for a family that mostly moves around the city. The capacity of the body will be enough for trips to the country. Operating a crossover rarely requires a lot of money, thanks to reasonable fuel consumption and good durability.
- Engines: Under the hood of the crossover you can find modern supercharged engines.
- Transmissions: It works well but can bring malfunctions similar to Volkswagen's DSG boxes - wear of clutch and dual-mass flywheel.
- Driving: The walker provides a relatively high level of comfort, and the brakes are effective.
- Other problems and malfunctions: Nothing has been heard about the corrosion of the body yet.
Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
