Renault Sandero Stepway debuted in 2008 in the South American market. The car arrived in Europe in 2009 under the Dacia brand. The Russian registration of the car received in 2010. Of course, the raised modification of the Sandero is not a real SUV, but offers an interesting appearance, reminiscent of a crossover. Stepway is more charming than Sandero. Attention is attracted by bumpers and expanders of wheel arches made of unpainted black plastic, silvery rapids and massive roof railings. Solidities add darkened headlights, a chrome exhaust nozzle and 15-inch alloy wheels. Serious attitude is emphasized by the increased ground clearance - 175 mm, instead of the Sanderovskiy 155 mm. The semi-crossover is equipped with standard metal protection of the engine compartment. Unfortunately, the interior is not as attractive as the exterior. On the front and door panels of hard plastic, dark colors with silver inserts prevail. However, all controls are within the driver’s reach, and among the ergonomic drawbacks is the negative tilt of the center console with a low-lying microclimate control unit. Here you will have to forget about the steering wheel, adjustable on departure. There is no way to change the height of the seat. Probably, only small drivers will have problems finding the ideal position behind the wheel. However, the main advantage of the cabin is capacity (by class standards). Praise is due to seats that, while devoid of lateral support, offer a pleasant trade-off between stiffness and softness. The trunk has a volume of 320 liters and 1200 liters after reclining the back of the back of the sofa. The luggage compartment length in the basic configuration is 800 mm and can be increased to 1700 mm after the rear seat transformation and the front seat movement forward as much as possible.

Engines

Unlike Sandero, only 1.6-liter gasoline engines were placed under the hood of Stepway: an 8-valve K7M (84 hp) and a 16-valve K4M (103 hp).

Both units have a temporary type of valve timing drive. Update the belt with rollers should be every 60,000 km or 3 years (1500 rubles plus 1500 for work). It is recommended to change the pump together with them (given from the gear belt). The water pump can flow through 70-120 thousand km. The new pump is available for 1400 rubles. When replacing the HRM, fogging or leaking is sometimes found in the area of the front ossel of the crankshaft (from 200 rubles).

Hydrocompensators got only 103-strong K4M. But the 84-horsepower K7M needs mechanical adjustment of the valve gap. The gaps can leave the tolerance zone after 130-150 thousand km.

For 7-9 years, corrosion destroys the mounting of the exhaust system. At the same time, the resonator can also burn out (2000 rubles and 1500 rubles work).

From time to time, the ignition coils (from 1700 rubles) or the thermostat (600 rubles) are brought in.

Transmission

The version with automatic transmission appeared in the summer of 2011. Until then, only a 5-speed manual transmission was offered, which was paired exclusively with an 8-valve 1.6.

The ICD was different from the one installed in a regular hatchback. Stepway used the JR5 box and Sandero used the JH3. In addition to other gear ratios, a hydraulic clutch drive and a cable gear selection mechanism were used in the raised version.

Drive shafts are different. There is no vulnerable left-wheel drive anther that often leaked. So you don’t have to worry about the transmission fluid leaks (at least not yet).

The clutch of the manual transmission usually serves more than 100-150 thousand km (from 5000 rubles per set).

The 4-speed DP2 was only relied on the strongest 16-valve 1.6. The box switching is almost invisible, and it is tuned to a powered ride. For traffic lights or dynamic overtaking, an automatic box is not suitable. Fortunately, there are no serious problems with it.

Walking

Stepway’s handling is not the most outstanding. High ground clearance and very soft suspension do not contribute to the rapid passage of corners. Stepway's element is bad roads. The suspension is able to filter out irregularities well. On the highway, the crossover is confident, not afraid of the side wind, but when changing direction, you must be ready for a slow reaction and some disobedience (costs of raising the center of gravity).

Stepway springs are longer and thicker than those of a regular Sandero, and the strut mounts are reinforced by additional welding points. Other hubs and brake discs.

Front shock absorbers are handed over after 60-100 thousand km (from 2000 rubles), and the rear - through 120-150 thousand km (from 1500 rubles). After 100-150 thousand km springs can become unusable - usually the rear ones break (2000 rubles for the original and 1200 rubles for the analog).

Ball supports run 50-70 thousand km (from 200 rubles per analogue). A little later, Silentblocks are handed over (from 200 rubles). The price tag for the front lever starts from the mark of 1000 rubles. The original detail will cost 3600 rubles.

The Sailen blocks of the rear beam may require replacement after 150-200 thousand km.

To 100-150 thousand km can sound front or rear stage bearings. For the front will have to pay more than 2000 rubles, and for the rear – at least 1000 rubles. For the work will ask about 1000 rubles.

In cars without ABS, the brake force regulator (the “witch”) begins to knock or creak over time. Noise comes from behind and occurs when passing irregularities, rocking the body or moving from the place.

Bodywork

Designers painted in silvery color the rapids and bottoms of bumpers. These elements are easily scratched, acquiring a scalded appearance. In addition, sooner or later begin to leave the plastic linings on the wheel arches.

Renault Sandero Stepway is definitely an attractive car in the secondary market. It is cute, inexpensive, versatile and practical. There is no doubt about the reliability of Stepway, although some small things will still require attention. However, possible malfunctions are not so critical.
