The ŠKODA Fabia RS is traditionally the most powerful version in its lineup. While the first generation used a combination of a diesel turbodiesel with a six-speed manual transmission, the second edition of Škoda proposed a combination of a 1.4 TSI Twincharger engine with a 7-speed automated DSG gearbox. As a result, the car was very fast.

The engine is the same as the VW Polo GTI and the Seat Ibiza Cupra. However, the Fabia PC is based on the old PQ24 platform, which features a narrower body design and has five doors in a standard layout. Another unusual fact is the second version of the wagon body.

It is noteworthy that the hatchback is 5 kg heavier than the station wagon – 1318 kg. The reason is the ballast in the rear bumper area, which helps to better distribute the weight in the short version of the car.

In addition to the powerful engine, the RS differs from the usual Fabia in a number of stylistic solutions. It's hard to believe that a few adjustments can improve perception so much - simple bumpers with aggressive cutouts, black lacquered mirror bodies and 17-inch wheels with low-profile tires (205/40 R17).

Inside, Fabia RS went even further. The front seats received large side rollers, which tightly but comfortably embrace the body of the driver and passenger. To this should add a steering wheel with perforated leather and a black ceiling.

Engine

1.4 TSI with double supercharged (turbine + compressor) recoil 180 hp surrounded by many myths. The question is, what is the truth? For example, the original compressor costs more than 40 000 rubles. Surprisingly, it can serve more than 200,000 kilometers. The compressor was initially annoying with noise. The flaw was only acoustic. Later, the material of the electromagnetic clutch was optimized, which allowed to get rid of the hum. Sometimes, however, the clutch itself is given up. Electromagnetic coupling has a water pump. Sometimes it also fails, or the pump starts to flow. In both cases, the pump will have to be replaced - from 10 000 rubles per analog. Until 2010, 1.4 TSI used nozzles that did not spray fuel well. The result was the formation of swelling on the pistons. In some cases, there was a detonation, which was a dangerous phenomenon - the engine could be damaged. However, Fabia RS 2 these troubles bypassed, since from the very beginning it was equipped with modified nozzles. Frequently occurring problems with the HRM chain in turbocharged 1. 4 are less likely to concern the dual-energized versions. Some of this is associated with a smoother increase in thrust due to the presence of a compressor. Others say the chain here is more durable and therefore more durable. Some owners of CAVE-powered cars face huge oil consumption. Sometimes the appetite reaches 1-1.5 liters per 1000 km. The manufacturer has addressed the problem by replacing piston rings, which were changed in September 2011. When inspecting before buying, you should pay attention to the operation of the engine after warming up.

Transmission

One reason the Fabia RS 2 has received less warm acclaim may be that the powerful and impressive engine has never been paired with a manual transmission.

The list of offers was limited to the 7-step DSG. This is the DQ200 transmission, i.e. with dry clutches. Its main drawbacks are malfunctions of the mechatronics and wear of expensive clutch.

In addition to DSG, the transmission uses XDS system - electronic imitation of the differential. It reduces understeering and provides faster cornering.

How's Fabia RS going?

The car is very fast. Thanks to the combined boost, the engine pulls well from low revs. The suspension is very rigid. Clearance decreased by 15 mm. However, with fast cornering, the limit comes earlier than in the more modern Mini Cooper Mk2, Citroen DS3 1.6 THP, Ford Fiesta ST or Renault Clio R.S. It's a little disappointing. But on the other hand, these cars do not offer a version of the station wagon body. The Fabia RS is also more practical in everyday life.
