What buyers check

A brief history of the model

The Skoda Octavia Scout debuted in 2007. Two years later (in 2009) the car underwent restyling. In 2010, the 2.0 TDI PD was replaced by the 2.0 TDI CR. In 2014, there was a change of generations.

Design features

The ŠKODA Octavia Scout is technically close to the usual Octavia, but differs in design and interior. Among the most notable differences are black unpainted plastic in the lower part of the front and rear bumper, wheel arches and rapids, as well as black moldings on the sides. This version is 10 mm longer and 15 mm wider than the standard model. It should be added that the “off-road” Skoda was offered exclusively in the wagon body.

The car attracts good equipment. Already in the database were prescribed dual-zone climate control and comfortable chairs. A handrail is installed above the glove compartment cover to stabilize the body of the front passenger during cross-country travel. As in the standard Octavia, there is quite room on the back sofa, and the trunk can accommodate up to 600 liters of luggage.

Technical differences can be found in the chassis. The suspension is set differently, and the clearance of the Skoda Octavia Scout is higher. The ground clearance is 18 cm (+4 cm). These are the characteristics of most modern SUVs. Part of the bottom was covered with regular plastic protection.

All the copies were equipped with all-wheel drive. Under normal conditions, the car remained front-wheel drive, and if necessary (automatically or forcibly) connected the rear axle - using the Haldex coupling of the fourth generation. Scout is ideal for traveling on dirt roads. The all-wheel drive system is effective not only in winter, but also on sand and wet grass.

Engines

Scout was seen as a special model, not a design model. Therefore, for him, the most powerful engines from the asset of the ordinary Octavia were selected. Before restyling, a choice was offered either a gasoline 2.0 FSI with a capacity of 150 hp (200 Nm), or a diesel 2.0 TDI / 140 hp (320 Nm). After the update, the FSI replaced the 1.8 TSI with a recoil of 152 and 160 hp (250 Nm), and the turbodiesel received a Common Rail injection system instead of a injector pump, but retained the same characteristics. In the secondary market, the absolute leadership is for Octavia Scout with a turbo engine of 1.8 liters. The engine provides the best dynamics, but do not even count on the promised fuel consumption. Unpleasant episodes with the chain of HRM, rather, exceptions, but high oil consumption is an everyday reality. 2. 0 FSI - consumes the same amount of fuel, but is prone to accumulation of sodium. In addition, there are problems with startup and sustainable operation (especially in winter). Diesel modifications are a real exotic. Although it is the turbodiesel that suits the character of Scout best. The engine pulls well and at the same time is quite economical, consuming only 6-7 liters per 100 km. However, we have to reckon with higher costs for potentially possible repairs, which negates all savings on fuel. Choosing a diesel dorestyling instance, you are doomed to a motor with pump injectors. Fortunately, this unit with the code name BMM, is not among the dangerous. There are no problems with the cylinder head and the oil pump. But you should be ready to replace fuel injectors (from 50 000 rubles) or particulate filter.

Transmission

All power units were combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. Only after restyling appeared automatic transmission DSG6, available only for diesel versions.

The universal Skoda used DSG series DQ250 with a wet clutch type (clutch bathed in an oil bath). The box is hardy and is able to digest up to 350 Nm of torque. However, no problems are guaranteed with regular oil change (every 60,000 km). Before buying a ŠKODA Octavia Scout, you should ask the owner how often he changed the liquid in the box. If the owner has no idea about it, then it is better to forget about this instance or... prepare a lot of money for the starter investment package.

The average cost of repairing the DSG box is about 50-70 thousand rubles. If we are talking about the restoration / replacement of the mechatronic, clutch and two-mass flywheel, it is difficult to meet the 120,000 rubles. Changing a faulty “robot” to an already used one makes sense only when selling a car.

How do I check for DSG? First of all, you should go to a specialized service for diagnosis. But a computer test isn't enough. The test drive is equally important. The main thing to avoid instances after the engine chip tuning, since the box is designed for only 350 Nm of torque.

Regular oil change is also necessary for the Haldex coupling. It is quite reliable, but with large runs, wear of bearings is possible (there is a hum). In addition, the clutch should be inspected for leaks.

Typical problems and malfunctions

In addition to the above shortcomings in the operation we have to face the ailments characteristic of the Skoda Octavia II. Most often, they bother with small things that can spoil the nerves. For example, door seals that allow water to pass through or emit noise when driving at high speed. The best solution is to replace the seals with new ones. It's not cheap, but it's effective. Sometimes, because of the clogged drain hatch in the cabin begins to flow water. The quality of the interior assembly is quite high, but the materials themselves wear out relatively quickly.

Operating costs

Universal ŠKODA content is not much more expensive than the regular version. Difficulties can arise only when recovering from an accident due to the characteristic bumpers, which are difficult to find on the secondary market or disassemblies.

Fortunately, a strong suspension does not cause serious trouble. It should be noted that the off-road model uses other shock absorbers with a pipe diameter of 55 mm rather than 50 mm. In addition to the original, you can buy analogues, and the shock absorbers themselves are not expensive.

Challenges of selling privately

Skoda Octavia is very popular, but not Scout. The most attractive restyled versions, besides, they are slower to lose in price. For a serviceable car assembled before facelift, you will pay about 500-600 thousand rubles, and for a younger one - from 650 to 900 thousand rubles.

Prices may seem prohibitive, but you need to keep in mind good equipment and enhanced potential. Many of the specimens have a powerful audio system, navigation, xenon headlights and leather upholstery. The Scout is only comparable to the Octavia RS.

The Skoda Octavia Scout is an interesting and versatile model, and in some conditions it can be even more useful than the classic crossover (for example, thanks to a spacious trunk). Scout is not an SUV, but with certain skills, it will allow you to get very far. If someone needs a relatively small, but roomy and comfortable car, capable of periodically sliding off the pavement without consequences, then Scout is the best choice.

  • A brief history of the model: Skoda Octavia Scout debuted in 2007.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
