Why buyers choose this model

Subaru XV is a compact crossover, which debuted in September 2011. The model with undeniable advantages and extraordinary appearance immediately attracted many motorists around the world. Among other things, the crossover is advantageously distinguished by a high level of safety - 5 stars per crash test according to EuroNCAP.

What buyers check

Engines

Only models with gasoline engines of 1. 6 liters (FB16B) and 2. 0 liters (FB20B) were officially supplied to the Russian market. The latter and have become more widespread. All units, traditionally for Subaru, are of the opposite type and are equipped with a chain drive of the valve timing. Outside Russia, the XV is available, including with a 2-liter boxed turbodiesel (EE20Z). The XV engines are quite reliable, although it does not do without unpleasant incidents. For example, many owners note an increased oil consumption, which by 100,000 km usually reaches the level of 1. 0-1. 5 liters (from replacement to replacement). The problem is primarily with Subaru with the FB20B. In some cases (which can be counted on the fingers) owners complained about high oil consumption at an earlier date - after 40-60 thousand km. When confirming the fact of "maslozhor" the block of cylinders assembled, the so-called short block, was to be replaced. The manufacturer acknowledged the defect, citing poor-quality piston rings. In 2014, the node was modified and the issue, theoretically, was exhausted. The mileage of “fresh” cars is still small, so it is too early to judge the solution of the problem. Another small part of the owners complains about extraneous sounds (tremble) when starting a cold engine or during its operation after warming up. In the first case, according to the assumption of some mechanics, the chain tensioner is to blame (does not choose the slack completely). Craftsmen even developed the technology of “tension” of the chain. In the second case, the suspects were the AVCS valve (active valve control systems), and all the same notorious piston rings and a HRM chain.

Transmission

Subaru XV cars are equipped with two types of transmissions: 5 or 6-speed mechanics (depending on the engine) or Lineartronic CVT. It is worth noting that the continuously variable automatic box Subaru is very reliable. In any case, the variators of other manufacturers are significantly inferior in durability. There were no complaints about the manual transmission. No less reliable is demonstrated by the all-wheel drive system.

The XV is equipped with two types of all-wheel drive systems. In models with “mechanics” a permanent all-wheel drive scheme with an interaxial self-locking differential and viscous coupling (CDG) is used. Under normal conditions, the torque is distributed between the axles in a ratio of 50:50.

In pair with the CVR, the Active Torque Allocation (ACT) scheme works, transferring 60% of power to the front wheels and 40% to the rear. When changing road conditions, the multi-plate clutch instantly redistributes torque between the axles.

Walking

The suspension of a small Subaru was not so resistant. Stage bearings, shock absorbers and front arms may require replacement after 50-80 thousand km. By this time, the steering rack can also be knocked. Perhaps it is not the strength of the nodes, but the characteristics of the suspension. It is so omnivorous that many owners, forgetting, stop slowing down in front of the pits. The result is obvious: leaky pillars and torn Silentblocks.

As for the steering rack, the manufacturer acknowledges the presence of knocks, but does not consider this a defect. Subaru representatives refer to the design feature and claim that they are working to minimize the unpleasant effect. However, especially persistent owners, manage to replace the knocking steering rack at the expense of the manufacturer.

Body and salon

Modern cars have a delicate paintwork and thin body iron. All of this is present in Subaru XV. The body quickly overgrown chips (especially the hood), and iron is easily deformed (when stones are hit).

Not very durable and windshield, which eventually rubs, and meetings with stones for him end in cracks. Heated glazing fog lamps do not like water and snow - can burst.

The XV salon also echoes the trend of savings. Over time, plastic begins to creak, and the painted elements of the decor are worn out. Some owners complain about the layered steering wheel.

Another attack is the creaking backs of the front seats. The defect is eliminated by dealers by installing special bushings on the back frame. In addition, there is damage to the side support seats. This happens due to the destruction of the foam rubbing against the metal frame.

Finally, it is worth mentioning individual cases of failure of the air conditioner compressor (cold air ceases to blow) and the noise of the heater fan (grease is required).

  • If the sensor does not come to its senses, it should be replaced.
  • So recommends to do the manufacturer in his technical bulletin, where he recognizes the defect that can manifest itself on any run.

Challenges of selling privately

Subaru XV in terms of reliability is head and shoulders above its European competitors, although it is somewhat inferior to Asian compatriots. However, serious malfunctions are rare, and in 2014 the manufacturer did a lot of work on modernization.

  • Engines: The problem is primarily with Subaru with the FB20B.
  • Transmission: Subaru XV cars are equipped with two types of transmissions: 5- or 6-speed mechanics (depending on the engine) or Lineartronic CVT.
  • Chasing: The result is obvious: leaky racks and torn silentblocks.
  • Body and salon: Not very durable and windshield, which eventually rubs, and meetings with stones for him end in cracks.

Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
