Value my car1Why buyers choose this model
Ford Mondeo 5, in comparison with its predecessor, grew older, heavier and switched to a somewhat American style. The most discussed was controllability, which has become not as perfect as before. But Mondeo is not a sports car. The fifth version is more comfortable. In contrast to criticism of driving qualities, remarks to a cheaper-looking cabin are much more appropriate. In addition, the first version of the Sync2 infotainment system was far from perfect. The interior has improved over the years, and since the summer of 2016, the much more advanced Sync3 has become available. In 2019, EuroNCAP tested Mondeo 5 for safety. The generalist was the test subject. The result is a high level of passive safety for adults and children, plus good results in the assistive systems category. Total - full 5 stars.
2What buyers check
Gasoline
Gasoline engine enthusiasts will be able to find options with relatively simple, but not very dynamic, aspirated engines. In Europe, only EcoBoost turbo engines and hybrids were offered.
Turbocharged engines had excellent performance on paper, and being new received mostly laudatory reviews. They provided good dynamics and were not too voracious. However, after several years of operation, supercharged engines could show themselves from the worst side. There were serious problems, the elimination of which was expensive.
The 1.0 R3 and 1.5 R4 EcoBoost turbo engines are subject to overheating due to loss of coolant. As a result, cracks in the cylinder head could appear.
The 2.0 R4 EcoBoost engines suffered from cylinder block damage, pistons and valve timing problems.
All these units are sensitive to deviations from the manufacturer's recommendations on the quality and parameters of the oil. Not every branded oil of the right viscosity or classification will be compatible with these engines. You need to pay attention to the manufacturer's tolerances.
Before buying a Ford Mondeo 5, it’s worth checking the service history and making sure all guidelines have been followed. If not, then it's not worth the risk.
Diesel
Ford Mondeo 5 turbo diesels are the least of the problems. The 2.0 TDCi is the successor to the DW10 developed by PSA. With large runs, sometimes there is a destruction of the pusher drive TNVD. In the process, the camshaft that drives the pump may be damaged.
The feature of the 2-liter diesel engine is a plastic oil crankcase. When the oil is overheated, the pallet can lead and crack.
Hybrid
Hybrid versions of HEVs from the European market are rare. They were usually imported from America in the person of the twin Ford Fusion. Despite the similarity, it is not possible to count on full interchangeability of parts with European versions of the Ford Mondeo.
Transmissions
In versions with automatic transmission used a unique 6-speed planetary automatic with a hydrotransformer 6F35 American production. The feature of the box is the transfer of torque from the box to the front axle differential via a link chain. Experts estimate the reliability of the box as average.
The 2-liter diesel could be combined with an automatic gearbox Getrag PowerShift 6DCT450 with dual clutch. In the PowerShift transmission, it is important to change the oil every 60,000 km and at the same time adjust the clutch (switching point).
Characteristic problems and malfunctions
Body elements are well protected from corrosion.
Lack of reliability LED headlights, but there are services that repair them.
With intensive operation, the most complaints are the wear of suspension and brakes.
Sometimes there are malfunctions in the air conditioner - usually due to a faulty control panel.

4Challenges of selling privately
The offers to sell a used Ford Mondeo 5 are enough, there are plenty to choose from. In the case of turbocharged versions, it is best to avoid cars without a complete service history. Turbodiesels and gasoline atmospherics are more preferred.
- Transmissions: In versions with automatic transmissions, a unique 6-speed planetary automatic with a 6F35 hydrotransformer of American production is used.
- Characteristic problems and malfunctions: Body elements are well protected from corrosion.
Shows, bargaining and re-registration take time: buyers look, promise to think and disappear. Fair price after inspection closes the auction on the spot. If money is needed urgently, the purchase takes away waiting and repeat displays.
