Value my car1Why buyers choose this model
The first generation of Renault Scenic is represented by two versions: the pre-restyling, called “Phase 1” (1996-1999), and the post-restyling – “Phase 2” (1999-2003). Older models are already noticeably outdated, but in terms of functionality are not inferior to younger ones. In addition, thanks to simple 8-valve engines, they are more unpretentious in operation. After lifting, Scenic 1 acquired characteristic front headlights and began to be equipped much better. Already in the database, all versions had 4 airbags and ABS. "Phase 2" is also better finish quality and a wider range of engines. The owner will not have much corrosion problems, especially on younger specimens. On older compact vans, corrosion foci can be found along the edges of the rear wings, and sometimes on the rear door. The door handles are too thin in many instances already broken. Another typical defect is the souring of long-unused door locks. If there are problems with the remote control of the central lock, it will be very difficult to get into the car. Older instances are chasing malfunctions of the under-the-wheel switch for light control. Looking for a cheap Renault Megan Scenic initial production period, it is better to look at the versions with 8-valve gasoline engines. 1.4-liter engine is too weak. The optimal choice is engines with a working volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters, besides they are very durable. The front seats are soft and, unfortunately, often crushed. With diesel 1.9 D/TD and 1.9 dTi, you have to be careful. They are characterized by leakage of oil. In the 1.9 unit, dTi often breaks through the cylinder head. In both versions with a turbocharged can be worn turbocharger. After restyling, 8-valve gasoline engines gave way to 16-valve working volume of 1.4 liters, 1.6 liters, 1.8 liters and 2.0 liters. The last three engines are preferred. All gasoline units have a temporary type of valve timing drive. If 8-valve engines required replacement of the belt every 90,000 km, then here the period is reduced to 60,000 km or at least once every three years. After restyling, the line of diesel engines was represented by three main units. Basic 1.

4Challenges of selling privately
Long-term presence on the market, a huge range of spare parts, a low number of failures and an affordable price are the main advantages. The most preferred post-restyling version of the model, which guarantees not only a high level of comfort, but also safety in the event of an accident. If you are looking for a family car at a reasonable price, then you should seriously consider buying this French compact van.
